I've been saving for a GP2X for a while, and it's getting close to the point where I can actually afford it. I have been considering ordering from Play-Asia, but first, I have a few questions. First, is there any reason I should buy from someone else? From what I've read, it seems like Play-Asia is probably the best place to buy, but I could have missed some reason it'd be better to order elsewhere. Second, if I do order from Play-Asia, about how much will it cost after shipping, and any other extra costs I haven't thought of, have has been added to the initial $170?(shipping is to the US)

I've done play asia in the past for my gp32 and it was awesome..but I would do something more of the tune of gp2x.co.uk. Mostly due to repairs..although you won't get lolipops ;(

Indeed, Play-Asia does provide free candy with your order. I really don't think anything can beat that.

I ordered my GP32 from Lik-Sang. It was a very smooth transaction. My GP2X came from GP32z, which sadly doesn't exist anymore.

I just got my GP2X from Play Asia (with a name like that it really should be a porn site) a couple of weeks ago.

My purchase broke down like this...

Ordered the GP2X, TV out cable and carring case. I paid a grand total of $215.40 on Aug 26, 2006. I live in Tenn.

As I recall, I picked a shipping option that has tracking info.

Also note that the carring case was on back order when I purchased, this delayed the order for some time. They finally shipped the GP2x and TV cable which once that was done I recieved those items after a few days time. I just got the carring case yesterday. So if something isn't in stock, don't purchase it because they will hold the entire order waiting for stock to arrive... then they give up and ship what they do have.

I give them a thumbs up and have no problems suggesting others to purchase thier GP2x needs from them. I've not bothered to eat the candy they sent so I can't comment on it.

Play-Asia is excellent on shipping and price. Keep in mind that if you have a problem with it, it will take several weeks to to get it replaced
  • a week or so before they let you send it back (overseas email delays)
  • 2 weeks before they get it
  • 2 weeks of testing
Most people here say that it's rare to get a bad unit, but I've now received two in a row. I don't blame them for the bad units.

I get frustrated because I've gotten used to much better service in US, where most returns are swift with no questions asked.

Having said that, they are very polite about it and it's just their policy - I get no sense that they're being sleazy.

The only problems are that if you want to get your gp2x repaired due to any reasons, you will have great problems with play-asia and liksang. I ordered mine from liksang but that also means that I cannot send it back easily. If you have a problem later on with your gp2x, you can send it to craigix (gp2x.co.uk) and he will repair it for you. He will probably give you quite a nice deal too and even repair things that other distributors won`t if they even care to repair it at all. That`s the big advantage. Also Craigix is member of this board and you can ask him some questions before you ship your eventually broken device back.

I got mine from a seller on eBay called TheBigEmu.
no problems, no hassles..and they are based within North America..which, if you live in North america, is rather conveinent!
;)

THough I have purchased accessories from Play Asia and they are great.

I got my GP2X last friday from gp2x.co.uk - it came next day and was pretty happy with their service.

Didnt go exactly to plan though. I emailed them the day before to check they had the GP2x, 1 gig memory card and Tv out cable in stock. I received a reply confirming they are in stock, yet when i received the goods the TV-out cable wasnt in the packaging :(

After another email i was told 'there should have been a message on the despatch note its out of stock and will be delivered when stock arrives' (there was no message on the despatch note) Thats fine i can except that but why the day before i place the order am i told all the items are IN stock?

The website also shows the same logo on the memory cards as if its a sandisk memory card you will receive but i received an integral. Fair enough, they dont actually state you are getting a sandisk but its still a bit misleading for new customers.

Sorry if i appear to be having a go at gp2x.co.uk, its more contructive criticism than complaint, they respond to emails quickly and i understand mistakes are made. I'm sure the Tv-out will be here soon :)

If i was to order another GP2X i would still go to them for the fast delivery.

The white-on-blue "SD" logo with the // through the D is the Secure Digital Association logo, has nothing to do with SanDisk. Many SD manufacturers use it.

Noted. I'm still waiting for my TV-OUT cable though, no emails have been received to update and that was a week ago. Probably ring them later.
