Is this possible, and can you do it with just a cable or do you need to use a breakout box?

Thanks

I'm assuming you mean iPod-GP2X?
The point of the BoB is to allow the gp2x to act as a USB host which would allow it to connect to the iPod I guess...

Hmph. Ipods have become the Nintendos of MP3 players ...

"What kind of Ipod is that?!? It's not white!"

I'd imagine any HD-based MP3 Player would work via a BoB ... yes?

Haha. Just like the Gp2X. "What kind of PSP is that? is it new?!1!?1seventysix831"
I can no longer count on my fingers and toes how many times someone in school or on the street has asked "why does your psp look funny?" or said "what kind of ghetto psp is that?".

The unwashed masses are undeserving of such a grand handheld ;)

What exactly would you do with an iPod hooked up to a GP2X?

Well, it's 20Gb with only 10Gb of used space at the moment, so I could fit 10Gb of GP2X goodness on there =D Considering it's light and self powered I think it would be great if I could play stuff directly off it.

I don't think you'd need a whole BOB, just probably a cable with the usb regulation circuit in it, seeing as ipod is self powered you shouldnt have to go to the trouble of making sure the usb is powered.
But does the ipod work as a mass storage device? I have an zen micro personally so I don't know

I have a cheap generic wanna be ipod (inoi I think) that I picked up for a hundred bucks and it connects fine with just a cable no bob needed.

^^ kick

I've just constructed my USB host port, and it works! yippy!
The only problem is, that it doesn't do much when i connect my IPOD 3G on to it :(. The IPOD shows "Do not disconnect" message. Other USB devices like a PENDRIVE, CARDREADER and MOUSE do work.

Is there anyone out there that did succesfully connect they're IPODs?

You mean, to the USB port? Or EXT?

What cable are you using?

Hmm, I haven't tried it myself with my iPod, but at a guess, I'm thinking that the ipod will be at /dev/sda1,2 and 3... As that's where it's been previously when I've connected my iPod to linux, so it wouldn't actually DO anything [Expect display do not disconnect] until you mount it, which I'd have no idea how to do personally :p
