Please could you help me. I received my gamepark on Monday and the Smartmedia card the day after. I connected it all up to my computer (the cable is connected properly). Then last night I followed the instructions on the gamepark website, I signed up, installed the authentification wizard and downloaded the USB drivers.

But I have a few problems....

Firstly everytime I try and sign in via the authentification wizard an error message appears saying that it can't find my USB port. Now the cables are connected properly and the USB drivers are installed but everytime I try this message appears.

Secondly my dad had a look as he thought there is something wrong with the pc's USB port and after many problems it worked. I transferred one file, an mp3, then i closed the program (pc link host) and after checking that the song played and the file had transferred correctly. I set it all back up, but it didn't work! An error message saying "cant recognise USB port" appeared. Now i have tried everything, reinstalling drivers, checking cables.

I am really stuck, i am also a newbie and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards NickEriksson

How are you connecting the gp32?

Is it a lik-sang or a gbax gp32?

If it is a lik-sang bought one, start the gp32. press select twice and enter pc-link mode, on the screen it will say waiting.

now start pc-link on your pc and when you get the connection message on screen, connect your gp32 to the usb port and click ok on pc.

if it is a gbax bought one, then follow the above, or enter pacrom from the boot benu and choose link mode, as above it will say waiting, follow above steps.

if it has worked but won't now, then you should be able to rule out usb / cable problems.

Try "GP32 Manager" on Gamepark beta-test site, it's more stable than PC Link, will install the drivers for you, and seems to work on any firmware - I've tested it with the original Gamepark firmware, Pacrom & MultiFW, and it works with all those. Just ignore the firmware update in the download and launch the gp manager setup.exe instead.

Yep I've followed all of your advice and nothing will work. My dad says it is a problem with the PC itself. I run PC link host and I connect up the gamepark (properly) click ok and the following messgae appears... "Failed to open USB port", I have also tried out "GP manager" but i haven't been able to pass the USB, Gamepark, PC link screen.

If anyone has ever experienced similar problems or has some ideas what the problem could be, then please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Thanks again

Have a look in device manager and see if there are any devices with yellow exclamation marks in there.

Do other Usb devices work? Mice, joysticks and keyboards aren't really a good test. Ideally you want something similar to a GP (as far as the PC is concerned it's a storage device). Try a camera. As far as a PC is concerned a camera is a storage device that holds plenty of small files. Usb floppy drive (like those with laptops) or a scanner maybe?

How recent is the PC? I have an old motherboard here that didn't entirely like my usb joystick (would let me play one session of my fave joystick game and then refused to work). A little annoying when it was an Elite style game with launching and docking when the joystick would be repeatedly enabled and disabled. Turned out the ports weren't up to Usb 1.1 standard. If the PC was bought anytime in the last 2 years, I would say it's unlikely to be the PC's usb hardware's fault (screwy drivers is another matter though :( ).

Got all the Windows Updates (maybe there's an updated usb driver there)? What version of Windows are you running?

Post the specs of the PC and we'll see if we can help.

Edit: punctuation and grammar

well, if you have windows XP, when you plug in you GP32. in the bottom a bubble should pop up saying unrecognized USB. Click on that and install the Windows Driver off of the Gamepark website and it should work after that

Get a smart media card reader/writer :p

Serious remark, have you installed the drivers correctly from the homesite or failing that they the more 'stable' drivers by firefly i think

Been having the same problem. GP32 would link up fine at first, then started acting up and anytime I connected it a little bubble would pop up and say "cant recognise USB port" or something to that effect.

But the USB port works fine when I plug my digi camera into it. I feel it's more something to do with the link cable not getting a good enough connection at the GP32 end, as if I have a little play with the cable then windows will recognise the GP32 and everything works fine.

You could try getting yourself a seperate card reader...they aren't that expensive or you might be able to use a digi camera as a card reader. I now just use my digicamera to copy stuff accross to my mediacards and it works a lot better and is a lot faster than using the GP32 itself.
