Hello!
Maybe anyone knows a sky chart / planetarium programm for gp2x? i try a find one, but unlucky...:(
i think about programm like this:
http://edu.kde.org/kstars/
http://starryalley.twbbs.org/blog/index.ph...08-release.html
http://www.clearskyinstitute.com/xephem/
or so.
theoretically, mobilestarchart runs on mobile phones with java support, i find a java runtime binaries at
http://archive.gp2x.de/cgi-bin/cfiles.cgi?0,0,0,0,14,1841
but this java is a phornography imho - it cannot run a .jar from this java shell, only via scripts, and author write in readme, as mobile phones games not launch in this version :(
maybe anyone can help me?

mobilestarchart is GPL, i think kstars is too. xephem is insane and without an equally insane amount of effort i doubt it'd find its way to the gp2x*.

are you saying the java runtime is porn? i'm curious now :D i'm reading that as "it's a tease" in which case you're right, but only if you expect it to run mobile phone games out of the box. an app has to be designed/redesigned around the java runtime since it's nowhere near as full-featured as a desktop java environment (not complaining there...there's really now way that it could be).

ps. the small amount of experience i have with loading midlets onto my iden phone is that "write once run anywhere" does not apply to the world of locked down & proprietary phones.

anyway i was going to mention the days-old stellarium thread but what you have mentioned here is some feasible-looking software. i don't have the muscle to port it myself but i will join you in saying "if someone ported it, i'd happily use it :D "

maybe it could be kept open in the background during ur-quan... B)

* edit: wrong again

i put a link of kstars and xephem only for ilustrate, about why i telling.
i be a very happy, if i can run on gp2x a primitively sky chart, who draw a view of sky with major stars ( say, till 6 or 7m?) and planets, and moon phase an position...for astronomy on field with help of a gp2x
about java runtime for gp2x and a mobilestarchart - on gp2x not working :(
i say, a thiis runtime is porn, because from this java selector / browser cannot run a *.jar files, only a launcher.properties script file. this is not a wise, imho...:(

hey, looks like you are in luck, theres a zaurus version of xphem,
zaurus software tends to run without any changes inside of qtopia

edit:
I quickly packed it together for you, didnt test it thou

thsnks a lot, i unrar this, and copy to /App/xephem.
but when i run any of two (qtopia / qtopia2 ) - i cannot move a cursor. when i "set up" in first run ( enter a date, time zone, etc) cursor control via joystick ok, but when finished and in programm - i cannot move a cursor :(
and a qtopia is a very slow reaction on buttons ( runs in standart 200 mhz)...
i use gp2x with firmware 3.0.0 - maybe this is a problem, firmware version?
stop. i try again, and after a approx few minutes waiting ( clock in qtopia shows 0:10) cursor work from joystick.
in qtopia2 i vcannot find a sky chart, in qtopia i see personal sky chart, but this sky chart is little starnge imho. i cannot find zoom in / zoom out, and switch 360 grad mode / horizont mode. and "preferences" cannot run. in all others, it works, i think....

honestly, no idea.
Check the site of the software, they got some information on how to use it there.
ok, thank you. i used frequently xephem under linux, but xephem is more functionally and different looks than personal sky chart from this soft...
thank you again...

no, personal sky chart from qtopia is very horrible, and really not usable, imho.
maybe anyone can adapt this soft: http://www.astroarts.com/products/xplns/index.html ?
xplns is small, and fast soft. runs on normal linux machines, via x-window (x11). maybe it may adapt
to gp2x x11 version easy?
sadly, for xplns dont distribute a source code...;(

Please please please. I'm just a shmoe with no programming experience, but this would be great!
