My Gp2x F100 has recently stopped running gmenu2x for some reason -even made a thread about it here-

http://www.gp32x.de/board/index.php?showtopic=47183

and I found about Open2x while searching for possible alternatives. It sounds very good from what I read , but I couldn't find a link to download a binary version , even on file archive. Isn't there a compiled version availible for download yet ? I would really like to install it but don't know about compiling etc.

Open2x DR6 should be announced soon by Senor Quack. DR4 can be found in the beta testing section, and will probably be fine on your F100, but these aren't really public releases so it's not my place to recommend them.

Senor Quack has been implementing a lot of cool things leading up to DR6, relevant to both F100 and F200. If you can hold out, it'll be worth it. :)

Open2x DR4 runs nicely but has a couple of problems:

- Software compatibility. Some applications don't work, for example Wind and Water, Garden, Friq and those that use Glbasic or Python. Although, to be fair, most homebrew games and all emulators run fine.
- TV output. I can't figure any way to set PAL instead of NTSC.
- USB network don't work for me.
- New commands: bunzip2 and joe.
- Compared to GPH firmware, similar speed than the 2.x series; shorter time to boot than 3.x and 4.x series. I'm under the impression that batteries last longer in Open2x, but not really sure.

As a result, there is not any new and useful thing in DR4 to justify the change. It seems that DR5 (http://www.gp32x.de/board/index.php?s=&showtopic=45518&view=findpost&p=706841) is a real change compared to the official GPH firmware. I'm really looking forward to installing it.

I have now downloaded the new Open2x-F200-DR6 but will have to give it a whirl when I get home. Thanks for all the hard work from all contributors making this release possible. :D

This looks great, took the plunge this morning and installed DR6 on my f200. Boot time is up considerably on official firmware

Will play around with the PAL tv settings as initial view seemed too big to fit screen, or too high up.

Good news is that Outcast now shows up as full screen now - it never liked to run on TV out before which was a shame as loved my old atari st, once i can fix the screen size problems it should be good fun to play again.

USB Joystick mapping to GP2X controls is fantastic and makes the console so much more friendly to use.

Have to work now, but am planning to have a play this evening.
