Are there any open source gps apps with turn by turn directions to use with pandora + a bluetooth gps receiver?

Nothing as polished as say Tomtom yet, although work is ongoing. I'm currently fiddling with Navit (using the OpenStreetMap maps) on my Zaurus - I'll definitely be looking into using it on the Pandora.

hmm thats a bummer. are there any commercial apps that could be used natively or by means of emulation?

I know of no turn-by-turn, but I've been following OpenMoko for quite some time and the software touted the most for opensource GPS on it is TangoGPS. It is constantly updating and has just added a "find friends" feature that many phones are just now getting.

I don't have time to fully research this right now, but apparently Mio (Navman) unveiled their new ARM based netbook in January, which has built in GPS. Not sure what that could mean for us, but it sure raised at least one of my eyebrows.

If we get a Windows CE port (which won't be legal to use...), the commercial software from TomTom and others might work (they won't be legal either).

Tomtom runs on ARM linux. It's been successfully run under Angstrom on the Zaurus, but the guy who did the work (well over a year ago) never released it, as he's waiting for Tomtom's blessing first. *sigh*

I see there՚s a commercial navigation software coming out for G1 now. Might be worth a shot somewhen in the future if we get Dalvik running.

AFAIK, the commercial turn-by-turn navigation software for the G1 is one of those $10 per month cell phone navigation software subscription services. It seems to rely on as-needed downloads of map info rather than having map data on the device itself.

TangoGPS can only show bitmap maps, not calculate routes and do turn by turn; navit does route calculation and probably also turn by turn.

I'm using both on my EEE and I've seen them used on openmoko (but I've never cared about turn by turn) and they are starting to work quite well.
