One for Prometheus

Did I miss something? is Kaio: King of Pirates cancelled?

From that one screenshot I want to play this game

Yeah I saw that, but still I'm guessing they're aiming for something like that ... that'll do for me :)

Oh wow, 2 days and it's already cleared $1M. It obviously won't keep up the pace, but I wonder how far it will get.

will it be another case of overfunding with too many stretch goals that they cant reach so theyll sell early access on steam, and include it in a humble bundle before releasing it to the original funders, or will it just reach everyone in craigix time?

Depends on the ??? goals, I think. The current plan should be manageable because the stretch goals seem to have only little influence on the architecture of the base product.

Inafune is not just a developer, he's a producer. He has experience actually managing projects. DoubleFine fell into a trap of suddenly having what looked like "infinite" funds and no experience in controlling it. I'm quite confident that Inafune will not have that problem, even if they hit every single one of their stretch goals and keep going.

The stretch goals look (to me at least) like someone competent picked these. Two more stages: some additions to the engine and has to blend into the story, but otherwise completely seperate from the base product, can be parallelized or done later, whatever fits better. Do a video: just hire some video team, they may be slightly annoying (being in the way, asking stupid questions) and certainly cost some time, but will not have much impact on development. Additional platforms: don't base your engine on some stupid vendor specific gaming platform and if neccessary hire some specialists. Only the Game Plus and Turbo mode have a significant relation to the base game and have to be carefully managed, e.g. by doing them after the base game is mostly finished (perhaps as a DLC), so that you don't have to rebalance the additional modes everytime you change something in the base game.

I've only experience with boring enterprise software projects and no actual interest in the game itself, but the business plan is sound (as far as it is possible to deduce from the available information). If the story design is already mostly finalized (I don't know, but it seems like that) I cannot see much going wrong. In the worst case some goals can be delayed without breaking the project.

edit: This is different from the other 2 person game discussed recently where IMO the stretch goals add a lot of complexity

I did see Prometheus on the Ouya forum a few months ago. Not sure where she hangs out these days

4 people pledged more than $10,000.  There are some wacky people out there with lots of money!
