Very nice. :)

But I don't know, if my SD is slow or if my unit is funky, but there's still often a gap in playing. :(

What does "stereomix" do, actually?

Minor detail, I can just keep button pressed to ad files to playlist, but they need to be removed one by one, with single button presses.

It'd be cool to see PSone and PS2 sound format support as well, maybe in the future. For the time being I'd be happy if it allowed you to turn off the screen while playing music, if it has that than it's definatly an awesome app!

game music archives are easily availible and less legally problematic than Roms... but rather than test the Powers of Mods I'll just say Google the extentions used.

A great source for VG music is Zophar.net's VG music archive.

Your program looks like everything I have ever longed for!!...

...on the GP32. Would you consider porting it?
Or since you seem to be releasing the source, someone else will hopefully do it if you don't.

This would be just so awesome, even if not all formats would work (because of the GP32 not being fast enough).

Arr, now I want my GP2X back. :-(

EDIT: I'm messing around with the Windows version now, very impressive! The playlist feature is great. Also, the sound quality on all formats I tried so far was very good.

I noticed that folders with non-ASCII characters don't get displayed correctly with the Windows version. Characters like à and so on get displayed as blanks.

Another thing you should consider adding is support for RAR compression, which is the de-facto standard for SPC and GYM/VGM soundtracks.
For example, the whole soundtrack of a SNES game is usually put in a RAR archive and then the extension is changed into .RSN . The compression is also better compared to ZIP.

And I always like to have the remaining time of the song displayed instead of the elapsed time.

Would it be possible to only add specific tracks from NSF/GBS files to the playlist? Because those files are always full of sound effects and other stuff you don't want to listen to.

Is there any chanse of seeing a GP32 version of this player? It seems to be all I ever wanted in musical way...

GP32 - not from me at least.

Blank screen, time remaining, repeated remove, add subsongs - should be easy features to add, goes on my list.

The 'gap' thing - yes it happens to me too if I access the SD-card while playing, not otherwise. It seems the kernel steals enough CPU to cause stuttering sometimes when files are accessed. I'll try to find a good way to work around it...

Other formats - maybe, but right now not a priority (if rar, why not lha which is used for amiga music, or 7z which compresses better etc).

Stereomix is good for listening to SIDS in headphones; it mixes in a bit of the left channel to the right and vice versa.

It'd be great if you could implement seamless repeating of songs/subsongs - some tunes don't sound right unless they are repeated forever :D

Just added a config-file (including margins and colors) so you can get the display more tvout friendly:

By shutting down the screen I think you mean turn off the backlight as well.

Also underclocking the CPU should be a good future edition. (for 'simple' formats at least)

Also any chance of a Linux compiled version? Or the source?
(I'd like to do some audio comparisons...)

Yeah, linux compiled versions almost never work. Here's how to get the source:

EDIT: Just to clarify; it compiles fine under linux for me, I just meant that I didnt want to distribute a binary (compiled) version for linux since they usually only work on the system on which it was compiled.

One feature that I would absolutely die for would be a resume/bookmark function. Why? So I can use it as a full-fledge MP3 player for my audiobooks. Thanks for listening!

ERROR:

Hmmm... I know I don't have all the dependancies, but that should not matter yet.
