I may as well come right out and admit it ........... I'm 61 years old. It's not my fault, it's because I was 60 last year. I'm sorry I'm not 17, with purple hair and carrying a skateboard, but there it is. My"Crime", to most people my age, is that I love technology. I enjoy my kids Playstation. XBox 360, PSP, (Yes ! I know I'm name-dropping), DS and all the rest. I finished Halo 1+2. (I proud of that. It's not easy when you're 61 because the reflexes slow down.) The point of this posting is to say that I've sent away for a GP2X, my teenage son can't wait, and I'm a little worried that I may have bitten off more that I can chew because I have no idea how to load and use emulaters etc. My "problem" is that I enjoy finding out how to do these things. Can I pick the minds of all you younger brain types when I run into trouble ? I could say that one day you'll be old, but what's the point, none of you will believe me. I'm not senile but with the GP2X I may have trouble. I need help.

Unless of course all of you are Zimmer frame users!

Welcome to the community, pops ;)

Read the stickies and FAQs, and the readme's that come with the emulators, then ask when you need to ... we all need help at one time or another :)

Nice to see some older folk around here, welcome aboard :)

Feel free to ask questions should you have any trouble; remember to read the user guide, the wiki and search the boards before doing so, and you'll be fine.

Welcome. The GP2x is a great device you won't be disappointed.

telcolou wont of finished kid chamelean by the time hes 61.

Grumpy old man gamer telcolou is closer than you think ;) (am I talking about age or finishing kid chameleon?)

Welcome. Don't be afraid to ask, even if people do winge a bit if something's been asked before, someone else usually replies with the answer..

As I see it, you really can ask anything you want in the "I need help" section, and good use of the search up at the top of the page is actually a lot more helpful than you might first think...

EDIT: PS, I'm 24 and I've only just had my first go on PS2/Gamecube and never played XBOX, so you're far ahead of me for a start... (Stuck in the 16 bit past).

Hey Pops! I'm 51, soon to be 52, so don't feel too much out of place. I am glad to hear that there are others that are older that love this sort of thing. At least you have an excuse, saying that you are buying it for someone else. I usually buy it for myself.
My brain is not too young. Although my wife may tell you that I could be a 14 year old trapped inside of a 51 year old body.

edit: I have a load of video game systems. I got my addictive start when my daughter was around 4 years old. I had a Commodore 64 and saw a two player game in a bargain bin. It was Bubble Bobble. We grew up on that. I also visited the Arcades when I was in my younger days.

If I was younger, I would have blue hair.

You know, I don't know this for a fact because I haven't been here that long, (and I don't pay much attention, lol), but I get the feeling that this community is a bit older anyway. It seems like most people are in and around the 30 mark. I myself am 31 for example. Perhaps the GP2X appeals to the slighter older audience with a little more patience.

Anyway, I've had mine for a good few months now and I would say it's probably the best bit of hardware I've bought.

Getting emulators working is pretty easy most of the time. Most of teh just involve copying a folder onto the SD card and copying some roms across. I would advise starting with picodrive or DrMD. These are sega megadrive emulators and are both very finished, easy to use pieces of software.

Good luck!

No one will hold your age against you here! We're not like the pre-pubescent PSP community. :)

But you might want to check out my website (just click the link in my signature below). It has a lot of useful information and might save you a tongue-lashing from one of the not so friendly forum users. ;)

Welcome! It's nice to see someone such as your self who has not succumbed to the cliche of "older person who says games are evil!" Congrats on buying the best handheld around!
