Ok i followed a guide from a link on this page to Vdubing a DVD rip of Harry Potter2. I got pretty good video at 59Meg but no sound. I followed the guide to the letter except i switched the sound to mono after reading on this site that it can greatly reduce the file size. I had mpeg layer 3 compression, 18kbps mono and my final avi has no sound? is this one of these fluke bad conversions that i hear hapen every now and then or did i botch it?

Thanks

I think that you should make sure that the sound is at least 11,560Hz (soemthing around there) because I've tried 1,000,000 times and anything under that dosen't work.

When ripping from some programs the movie will be split into two files, one for the video stream and one for the audio. I suspect that is wht the file is so small. You need to get hold of a program which will encode the two together. This happened to me and I think I had to use tmpgenc. You can download it as a trial version.
