GP32 Newbie Programming

I can't find the book anywhere. I only see the ebook for sale. The book is made by functionx, right? Can you post a picture of it?

Do you any websites that sell the book new that aren't like amazon, ebay and half.com? I don't like buying stuff from individual people.

Barnes and Noble (bn.com) has a good selection of programming books. I've programming (C++ mainly) for awhile and am looking to get into making games for the GP32. If you're a programming newbie, I would highly suggest C/C++ they're both quite powerful and pretty easy to learn (though I think C is the faster of the two). And as for one of earlier questions, definitly get a book instead of online tutorials. I've yet to find a good tutorial that explains things thoroughly and easily. My suggestion would be to check out reviews of some books at Barnes and Noble, and get one from there. Hope that helps you. :)

Which book did you use to get started? I think I'm going to buy the book Twimy suggested. BTW, has anybody purchased anything from www.mircrocenter.com ? That's the only website I could find that sells C++ Programming Fundamentals: CypberRookies. Also, what book should I use after I have read and mastered the fundamentals book to be very fluent in the language of C++?

After that I think you'll be fine to search for Rico's tutorials, they should fill the gap. I've put the learning on hold for a while but the other day I looked at the atari lynx source code, and I actually new what about 50% of it meant and why it was doing it....that's alot more progress than I was getting out of online tutorials.

I got "Sam's Teach Yourself C++ in 21 Days". It cost me $31.50. I found it pretty helpful, but I haven't really looked at many others to compare it to. Whatever you buy, I would make sure and check reviews of it first. I bought a game programming book and had to give up halfway through and buy another because the first one didn't explain things very well.

Dont rico's tutorials involve how to create stuff for the gp32 in C? If I finish reading that C++ Programming Fundamentals book, will I be able to follow his tutorial even though I learned C++ from the book and not C? Also won't I be missing out on a lot of C++ stuff still after I read the cyberrokies book and rico's tutorials? Is it necessary to learn that extra stuff to develop stuff for the gp32 well?

You can't really learn C++ without C, except for C-style casts I think ... basically if you have read the book you will have no problem following my tutorial. I've had people who only know QBasic tell me they could follow it :)

I will have problem following your tutorial if I read the cyberrokies book for C++ programming?

No. If you learn C++ you'll find that C comes naturally. C++ is just a more flexible version of C.
Would I need to learn C in order to start programming for the gp32? Is C really necessary?

gaaaaah

C++ is a superset of C. You have to learn C if you cover C++. So get a C++ book, you'll learn C in the process.

However, since most GP32 games are in C, you don't need to learn the C++-bits if you want.
