Finally got me a gp2x (MK2), bought it from gp2x.net.au.

After checking the stickies, faq, and doing a search (getting the search criteria right is pretty tough) I have a couple of quickies.

(1) Wavy lines - I have wavy lines on the LCD. Mostly noticed within the firmware menu after booting. Didn't notice it when playing vice last night. The search yielded a few people were still having this problem (even with 2.0.0). Was this ever determined as a hardware or firmware issue ? Was this to do with the pressure on the back of the LCD (I recall reading about that on the board at one point - although may have been related to a different problem).

I was using a set of freshly (as in last night) charged 2500 batteries, if it makes any difference.

(2) I am sure I remember seeing this previously on the board but my search gave nothing. Within the menu system after booting, a single down and (occasionally up) movement on the joystick quite often result in two movements on the menu system. Is this normal ?

(3) No screen protector ! I am going to leave on the thick bubbly travel plastic film that was on it when I got it until I can get me a screen protector, else the bloody kids are bound to scratch the damn thing.

Other than that, happy as larry - except I am waiting on my flash card from an ebay seller.
Still, got vice onto the nand last night and was playing 'Perils Of Willy' on the vic-20 emu .. I am 20+ years overdue for completing this game. It alone could keep me happy for a month or so !

Is there a piece of glass/plastic or what ever over the LCD itself? if so then this is the screen protector.

I'm still waiting mine but I received email about delivery and there was this:

Hello,

This is confirm your recent GP2X order has now been sent to you.
......

Current known problems:

On some units the case can be too tightly sealed, just loosen the screws
slightly, signs of this are screen ghosting when using the joypad.

Joystick may have trouble going left, just slightly unscrew the joypad top
(just turn it).

These only effect a tiny amount of units, but we thought we had better mention it.

Dunno if this helps...

That is old, those problems have been fixed by now.

There is a setting that fixes this in the settings. Go into the LCD menu and set the slider until it doesn't do this. It will probably be a little left of center.

NO!..... Don't do that, all that will do is fuck up the joystick. I read that exact tip and ended up screwing my joystick up. All *unscrewing* the joystick does is wreck the little plastic cog thing that sits right in the middle of the joystick. Once thats damaged you are buggered, luckily I had an old GP2X dev it, so I ripped the components off of it and put them on my new Gp2X.

Please people ignore this tip, it will only make things worse.

Aye laddie ... that sorted it. As for the joystick - its probably just me. 2 days later and I don't have a problem (well with the double movement anyway). Maybe my fingers just needed some nurturing.

Cheers all.

Ah Reesy, if only I had read that about 2 months ago!! I ended up doing the same thing and buggering my joystick too. In the end I had to design myself a new one in a CAD program and take advantage of a 3D printer to make myself a couple of prototypes. All's well though, since I now prefer my own sticks to the official one :)
