Hello, since about one hour I'm a GP2X owener now and sadly I can't share the euphoria of all the others. My problem is. I turned it on and almost five minutes later I get a blackscreen. Same thing after ten minutes. Then I managed to get it working but during a data transfer the batteries went low (although the battery-screen showed "full" one moment before) and frustrated I had to get new ones. Now I am back, put the new batteries in, turn the whole thing on and it freezes in the main browser screen.
Not even on Windows I saw a completely new thing go that bad! Is it my fault or is it normal for the GP2X to crash every now and then?

Mine crashes ...like once every week or something... Not much considering I use it ALOT. Are you sure you're using rechargeables?

Use. Rechargeable. Batteries.

I wish I had $1 for every time someone posted;

"I turned it on and almost five minutes later I get a blackscreen."

I'd have a lot of dollars ;)

i wish i had a cent for evry time davec complains about his crappy batterys/screen/scaleing/bluring....
Man i would be like the richest man in the world.

First I did use recharable batterys, now I've got me normal ones.

It would help me a lot if you explained why it is that important for getting no errors to go with recharables for I am actually no certified guru.

Oh and my blackscreen came from recharables. With non-recharables it just freezes.

Now that might be a reason to ship it back. But before you jump to conclusions, wait and see what the rest of the forum members have to say

You need better rechargable batteries. Look for 2000 mah or better NiMH, preferably name-brand. I have used Energizer 2500mah and Rayovac(sp?) 2000 mah and both have performed well. They'll run you $25 for 4 batteries and a charger, or $25 for 8 batteries if you already have a charger for NiMH batteries.

Had the same problem, finally after 4 months I decided to send it back.
And Liksang reported that it was indeed a faulty unit and they have send me a new one today :).
If I were you I would send it back as soon as possible.

Note to telcolou: This has nothing to do with bad quality batteries and or chargers.

He may not know of Nickel Metal-Hydride (NiMH) batteries, and he may have have a faulty unit, he needs more info, and so do we.

The reason rechargables are needed is because regular (Alkaline) batteries cannot supply enough power continuosly to power the GP2X, it needs too much power.

NiMH batteries can provide this level of power, you need to try some brand-name 2500mAh (or anything over 2000mAh) they are sold at Wal-Mart, Target, etc, near where the digital cameras are sold.

If you can't get a couple hours of play out of those, or the Lithium non-rechargeable AA batteries, then you must get a fixed one from your distributor, the GP2X you have is broken in the power circuit.
