There is another one of those cheap Chinese Sega portables out. This time it has 16 bit Megadrive games. Saw this on Play-Asia. It is self contained with around 20 games.

The games are,

* Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle
* Alien Storm
* Altered Beast
* Arrow Flash
* Columns III
* Crack Down
* Decap Attack
* Dr. Robotnik´s Mean Bean Machine
* Ecco
* Ecco Jr.
* E-SWAT: Cyber Police City Under Siege
* Flick
* Gain Ground
* Golden Axe
* Jewel Master
* Kid Chameleon
* Ristar
* Sonic and Knuckles
* Shadow Dancer – The Secret of Shinobi
* The Revenge of Shinobi
Seems from what I have read, it seems to have a problem reseting while playing certain games. I might have to pick one of these up. The gadget hunger strikes again. :)

Seems like it comes with some decent games but I don't fully understand why you would want it if you already have a Gp2x or a Gp32. Also, it deciding to occasionally reset randomly during gameplay is too big of a problem for me.

I have a lot of different portable gaming systems. Over, I think, 26. I like the portable gadgets. Some days I pull out my Onestation Elite, some days the MD max, sometimes the Game King, the other day it was my Sega Nomad, yesterday I had the GP32 out. Who knows, maybe this weekend I'll pull out my Atari Lynx. I just enjoy the technology of the portable systems in my hands. It really is hard to put into words.

The games that has the random reset quirk is,
-Sonic & knuckles
-Shadow dancer
-Flicky
-Eswat

It's not Chinese, it's Brazilian, made by TecToy. It's on their website - true!
I was seriously thinking of getting one, but now that I know it resets during Sonic & Knuckles, I don't know...
I mean, having to replay through Sandopolis all over again? I love Lava Reef, but the potential of not being able to get there is just too much to even bare thinking about.

My bad on the orgin. I just wonder if it is the Sega on a chip that they are using that causes the reset of those games? Maybe a compatability problem? I would think that maybe it was original hardware, maybe. After googling, I found out that they still manufacture the Mega Drive there at Tec Toy! They manufacture it with built in games and the portable is just a new a new version of that. At one time they were actually Sega's representative in Brazil. :huh: Very interesting. Thanks for the heads up on that one. :)

Aren't TecToy the Brazillian company that made Duke Nukem 3D for the Genesis?

It's pointless buying this portable system, the gp2x has a megadrive emulator which plays over 50 games and resets on all games, this sega system doesn't have any fighting games such as art of fighting and street fighter 2 championship edition.

Not really pointless if you collect ;)

Hmm, try playing street fighter on an F100 GP2x then...

Oh bugger me backwards, I couldn't avoid the temptation any longer and ordered one off eBay for £40 - only to find I could've got one off Play-Asia for roughly half of that.

That'll teach me <_<

I'll pass on that, but let us know what it's like when you get it. I've got enough gadgets kicking around that I never use, might pick one up if it's any good :)

I think I'm buying it, just for the laugh... It's easy for me to buy it since I live here in Brazil :D (but let's check out the price anyway...)
I just have 2 game gears (and almost every single add-on for it), 1 psp and 1 gp2x 'left-less' and that "portable" sega-cdx
I'm not much of a collector I think... Still that would be fun, I think my gaming age stuck before 1996 or so

Well, it arrived this morning. Obviously it wouldn't fit through the letter box, so I had to get out of bed to open the door to the postman. Then I had to go out to get some batteries and a Philips screwdriver (both of which I seemed to have a lack of). But now it's all ready to go, and it's very nice. Bigger than I thought it would be, although not much bigger. It's VERY light, lighter than the PlayPal, even lighter than the Pokemon Mini!

That resetting thing DOES happen with Sonic & Knuckles, haven't noticed it with the other games yet. One thing though, it seems to be a longer delay between each reset with Sonic & Knuckles, and even then it only takes you back to the start of the level.

The sound is Very Loud, and seems a bit distorted on Ristar. Text is a bit blurry in all the games, but still readable, and the bombs in Revenge of Shinobi don't have the timer on them, which is a bit strange.

The d-pad is amazingly wonderful - you know how on the MegaDrive collection for PSP, when you play Ristar it's pretty much impossible to do accurate acrobatics/wall-climbing etc? Well this one's just like using the ole' MegaDrive pad, only a tad bit comfier.

I'd never played nor heard of Crack Down until I played it on this, which I am pleased with, and it also seems I was wrong about it's origin. It's distributed by TecToy, but made by the same Chinese folks who made the PlayPal (which was distributed by Coleco, if I recall). It even has the same packaging of the PlayPal, right down to the images of Sonic in his car from Sonic Drift 2, and Tails playing Sonic Triple Trouble through the TV (a feature I have yet to try out).

All in all, recommended entirely if you crave Decap Attack on the go and can't be bothered waiting for half an hour for the GP2X to boot up. Also if you like snazzy menu screens, like this one has. It gives you a picture of each game as you highlight it. Nice.

Okay, 3.8 out of 5. Good!

Glad you're happy with it!

I had not played crackdown till last year, it's now one of my favourite chinny games of all time.

Anyway, I was just thinking, now that we have a portable MegaDrive thingy, a portable Master System thingy, and a portable NES thingy, don't you think it's about time we had a portable Lynx thingy? I know the Lynx is a handheld anyway, but it could be re-done, a LOT smaller and lighter, with twenty-odd games built-in. Just like these other ones. Wouldn't that be nice? Would Atari still have control over that sort of thing? Do Atari even EXIST anymore??

It's late.

I had something to counter your view, but I can't remember it for the life of me...

Guess I'll just have to accept it'll never be. Ah well, have to stick to Gates of Zendocon on my laptop.
