Hey guys, would just like to say that i have had my gp32 for about 6 months now and i love it. esp the genesis games.. it saves me having to route up gunstar heroes from under my bed now :D . I have a couple of questions to ask if its ok? I'd like to know which is the best music software around on the GP32 for downloading as much music as possible, i've read that the ogg player is good but i need to run my mp3s through a converter for this.. does anybody know where i can find one?? Secondly i was just curious as to whether the designers in these forums think it would be possible to emulate the ATRAC3 Plus software that the Hi MD uses as that would allow for loads of storage?? I must admit i'm not technical in the least so please don't flame me if thats a stupid suggestion  . Cheers guys :p

Use google to find a converter (that is not hard at all - search for "mp3 ogg convert") and to that "ATRAC3 Plus" I must say: I do not know what it is. A codec? A mp3 player?

CLICK HERE for dbpoweramp. the best music converter youre gonna find. atrac 3 plus is a codec used by sony in its mp3/minidisc players. i got sonicstage when i bought my new mp3 cd player and its the biggest piece of junk ever. i never managed to successfully burn an atrac cd. if you want high quality, small files just stick with ogg

If you want to use your GP32 as a walkman replacement, it might be worth taking a look at http://www.gp32x.de/board/index.php?showtopic=12008 .

For converting I'd suggest you use the foobar2000 player. It has an option to convert a playlist to a desired format (including oggvorbis). You'll need the oggenc.exe from vorbis-tools though. For ripping CDs (that's what I use mainly) my first choice is CDex.

For a nice balance between quality and storage, I suggest you use the setting "quality q=2". This way I get 3 hours of music on one 128MB card.

Greetings,
SvOlli

P.S.: All of you: don't forget to vote for the name of this player!

Cool, Thx guys. I have an atrac 3 plus cd player, it works fine but i just want to cut down on the amount of stuff i'm taking... think i'd get funny looks trekking down the beach with my gp and cd player + extra batteries for both just in case. :D

Hey OGG is by far the best way to go,, use yogg player this allows the use of playlists although u cant save it, but it runs at 60mhz so gd battery life, just encode at like 48kpbs t 44100khz and you will enjoy. or use GPamp this is not as well known but it uses the yogg system and uses winamp skins and allows the use of shuffle and repeat. but runs at 132mhz so bot as good bat life.
as for atrac that is a codec used by sony minidiscs and cd players, no there is no compatible software and i doubt there will be as the source is not available. and the Hi MD systems is simply just using the FAT system on a minidisc to increase the size.
i think i have got all of that right.

Cheers guys that answers my question. I wouldn't use the mp3 player on the GP32 player because OGG is soo much better. i currently have the one that runs at about 130mhz (bluescreen i think its called), its not finished but i find the sound quality better on than the 66mhz version (probably just me :p ). Anyway just thought i'd ask about the ATrac thing as it compresses down to 64k and sound quality is good but if it cant be done then OGG is definately the way i'm gonna go!! Have just bought a new SMC for my music on holiday :D
