Music Creation On Pandora

The only "suggested ports" topics I've seen for several pages have been game-specific, and I'm wondering how feasible it might be to use the Pandora in my recording/composing/sequencing. (As a side benefit, such uses would increase the wife acceptance factor hugely)

Would these be port-able? Source is available, of course.
Audacity

Rosegarden (or something similar if the system requirements are too high)

Maybe a VST host to use the Pandora as an effects box?
http://www.anticore.org/jucetice/?page_id=4

Could these be made to work with such software packages on the Pandora?

How about this?

[Edit: Whoops, I had three tabs open to the Pandora forums and hit "new topic" in the wrong one. Dammit. Please move to General Talk if appropriate.]

I said I'd make a fully featured dedicated Photoshop-like editor for my ARSS, deved with the Pandora and its touchscreen in mind. That should be the be all end all of music/sound creation and editing.

I was seriously just at the gym working out and all I was thinking of was Audio creation/presentation software for the Pandora. I was thinking if I was doing a set what would I do? Cross-fading/mixing with analog sticks, tracking/editing sound waves and file with the touchscreen, use the mic for audio cue's for syncing/transitions via maybe some voice recognition software, and all that type of stuff. Some one is bound to attempt to port some recognizable suites, but I would rather see Pandora-exclusive/optimized software; maybe (actually more likely) using some other suite or components as the backbone. Would love some lossless editing action.

At Sharper Image we have this USB Guitar that lets you record .mp3s and other formats straight to your computer so you can edit/record your own music. There is a turntable that is capable of pretty much the same. I would love some driver for that. Just a random thought.

there have been two threads on this so far:
http://www.gp32x.de/board/index.php?showtopic=40825 <-- port of chibitracker planned
and
http://www.gp32x.de/board/index.php?showtopic=41040 <-- some random discussion on it

also, i would love to try my hand at writing a program for the pandora, that makes use of pandora's specific hardware (analog controls and screen uses as game_over mentioned, also the dsp probably could do some interesting things with synths...). im thinking something with a tracker-ish interface (sorry, i cant stand sequencers), but capable of recording audio, using LADSPA plugins (vst isnt really useful on linux without wine, and any plugins would need to be recompiled anyway...), full midi interface through usb, and possibly JACK.
is anyone else planning on programming something similar? maybe we could work together, at least share code.

and whats the point of all these usb things? why not just get a high quality usb audio input, and use normal hardware.

Is there a seperate MIC/Line Input planned? It would be great if the Pandora could simulate something like the Korg Pandora ;-) where you could plug a guitar or bass in the machine for practicing (amp simulation, effects and beat machine/ metronome).
Or better still do small multitrack recordings on the go.... Then I could finally sell my Boss Micro....

It should be possible with the software mentioned above.

Actually if you think about it, looking at the expected price for Pandora you'd be directly competing with a lot of music gadgets....I know a lot of non-gamers who'd buy into that!!!

I'm considering buying a Behringer BCD3000, and the idea of using it with Pandora popped into my head the other day. Now, it just won't get out of there.

Mixx is one open source app I know of that supports the 3000.

Two 1200s, mixer, BCD3000, Pandora. B) If that doesn't pull the chicks... well, nothing will have changed. But my mates would be impressed.

I have a Behringer BCD3000, the build quality is good but a little sloppy in some places. I use mine mostly for mixing video in AVmixer Pro. I have this funny feeling that audio creation or even mixing on the Pandora will be great, while I doubt that it could handle video mixing and effects. My current comp (4.2GHz Pent-D 805, 2Gb ram and 7600GT) can't handle my video set up. Even a 3700+ and 5700LE struggle with video.

I am concerned about the audio quality coming out of the pandora. however even if it has bad audio quality it would likely be possible to connect the pandora to a dac and pre amp etc etc via a nice high quality and decently long usb cable. thus it would be perfect for live performance.

edit - not only should you be able to use all kinds of software on the pandora for audio but you should also be able to use emulators to play trackers and whatnot from other systems like nanoloop for the gameboy. this is gonna be a dream for audio buffs like me ^_^

Yeah, I'd be treating the audio out the same way I treat a PC's onboard sound. Ok for personal listening and maybe some bedroom DJing, but not for production or live performance. Even if it's above average, anything professional will definitely be done via USB.

I'm not expecting much, since just about every laptop I've tried to date including the MacBook sounds pretty bad. Headphones will be mandatory for music listening in my opinion, unless Craigix and Co. pull out a relatively nice set of speakers.

of course, headphones would be manditory, its just not possible to get decent bass AND volume out of speakers that are 1" in diameter... but they weren't talking about the actual speakers, but rather the quality of the digital to analog converter and what quality of audio it can output (ie, 96khz 24bit versus 44khz 16bit) and the overall volume.
i would LOVE if it was capable of 24bit input and output, even at only 44 or 48khz... but thats pretty doubtful.

The processor and DAC support audio output at up to 24 bits/ 48KHz although most people will likely stick with 44.1KHz, 16 bit to match common emulator audio and MP3 playback, but the option is available. If you need 24 bit/192KHz, USB is the only way to go ;)

Audio recording is not supported by Pandora natively. It wasn't a justifiable cost. Personally, I would rather plug in an M-Audio recorder or similar if I wanted to record quality stuff.
