Further complicated (a *little*) by the ability to not bother with a wavetable if you have a software synthesizer and either some dedicated chips or a lot of CPU power - you know the music ScummVM puts out in the majority of games? That's, iirc, midi by synthesis.
Also extremely slow (I think - could be wrong though - DJWillis once mentioned it took something like 80MHz for the midi sound alone, perhaps nearer 100MHz; I can't remember). However, seeing as the 2x will be using SD cards, which means 20mb isn't likely to be the same 6th of a card it used to be, for its purposes, wavetable midi would probably be a LOT more sensible, not least because it sounds a great deal better than synthesized!
