Iv downloaded the new firmware and followed the only two tutorials i could find for encondeing vids and for some reason when i play any video files they start up right then crash.

any know solution to this?

also on this tutorial http://halffull.net/convert/I do not have the same config screen for xvid codec

You sure it's not the batteries? that's the most common problem with crashing videos, someone's using some standard alkaline batteries and those are only good for a half an hour or so.

got new set of energizer 2 batteries in it atm.

I was using them last night for about an hour , but I wouldn't think that would make me need a new set already.

i just uesed a fresh set of batteries and it worked.Didn't think to check since I didn't use the first set to long.

Yep the 2X really eats the batteries. You'll have to invest in a really decent set of rechargeables if you want to have 4+ hours of GP2X fun.

Yeah unfortunately store bought alkaline batteries suck for the gp2x right now, I definitely recommend some high draw rechargeables 2300-2600 mAh, you can get 4-6 hours consistently with good rechargeables, I get 3-4 hours with my cheap brand rechargeables. Plus if you get a couple sets of the batteries it's pretty easy to swap them out and charge them up while you are using the fresh ones.

When I got my gp2x it was over the weekend and I went through 10 batteries just testing it out and watching a couple tv shows on it. Since I got the rechargeables though it's much better.

Just bought 4 X 2200 mAh batteries and charger from my local Halfords store. Comes with UK 240v and 12v Car socket.

Charges all NiMH batteries in just 15 minutes .... wow!

Can also be bought on the web - search "Energizer 15 minute charger".

I've used my original 2300 batties in the charger and I swear they are performing better too. A recommended buy.

2200 is pretty low, i would at least get 2500

Is there really that much difference between the 2? Like 20minutes tops? It is only 12% more. Sure the more power the better but does it make that much of a difference?

*looks at his 2085mAh batteries* :unsure:

I agree. But the 2200's came "free" with the charger (and it was the fast charger I was more interested in)

Whilst only waiting 15 mins to fully charge, and 4 hours gameplaying I havn't yet felt the need to buy higher spec batteries.

I bought my rechargeables from compgeeks.com, $5 bucks for a pack of 4, and $5 for a USB charger. A bargain I think.

here's what i use to convert vids for the gp2x .. i'm on Mac (OSX) and using mencoder ...

Code:
[ging:~] j% cat ~/bin/gp2xmov

#!/bin/sh
mencoder -oac mp3lame -ovc lavc -srate 22050 -lameopts cbr:br=64 -ffourcc DIVX -lavcopts \
        vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=350::v4mv:mbd=2:trell:cmp=3:subcmp=3:mbcmp=3 -vf scale=320:-3 \
        $1 -o $2

i used this script to do the Pinguin.avi 'demo' movie for the gp2x (check the file archives for "Penguin girl" and make sure you download the .zip file containing the .avi, not the .mpg link to the original material...)

with this script, movies play very nice .. my girl and i have been getting into the habit of falling asleep watching futurama and wallace&gromit in bed these past few weeks, heh heh ..
