There is currently a kickstarter campaignhttp://www.kickstarter.com/projects/539087245/spriter?ref=live running with the aim of creating a professional quality 2D animating tool. Compatability with game authoring software such as Unity and torque 2D is being worked on by 3rd parties.Which means soon Spriter animated characters could be possible on PC, MAC, PS3, XBOX360, Wii, Android, iOS, and Flash. The goal is to raise 25,000 dollars. Michael V. Parent, one of the makers is a professional 2D artist who worked on Thor, the nintendo DS game. He is also a member of team Natami who are creating the Natami, Native amiga computer system http://www.natami.net/knowledge.php I think it's a worthwhile campaign and sounds like a very useful tool for videogame artists or designers etc.

I'm often pleasantly surprised by how successfully some Kickstarter projects manage to be, but in almost all cases I've seen they've aimed low and achieved very high.

Cool as this may or may not be, I fear $25,000 to get this funded is altogether too unlikely for something so niche.

Best of luck to 'em, but...

I'm currently working on a 2D game editor/creation-platform targeting, specifically, MOAI: http://getmoai.com/

Maybe I should set this up with Kickstarter, hmm ..

They have already raised nearly 13,000 dollars of a required 25,000 dollars in just over 24 hours.Good going.

Watching this one, too. I tried the demo for a bit, seems like it'll take some getting used to and I don't have any files on-hand that I can try with it. Anyone else tried it yet?

I gave it a shot, it's really quite good, but it does blur pixel art quite substantially. So good old fashioned drawing frame by frame for me at the moment. :)
