I just got my gp2x MKII. I insert batteries and turn it on, and there are a bunch of vertical lines of different colors and they dont go away. Is this normal on the first time.

ahhhhhh!

EDIT:
If i turn it on with the USB connected to my computer, it makes a bootup screen but then shows a bunch of random lines and static with a faded bootup screen in the back.

ok how long will some energizers work until i get to a store?
Many types of alkaline AA batteries are not really designed for "high drain" devices like the gp2x. They have a high "internal resistance" which basically means that their voltage drops a lot when they try to provide a lot of current. So a lot of those batteries might only power the gp2x for a short time (or perhaps even not at all), even though the batteries are still almost "full".

Most good NiMH (or nicad for that matter though those are not very popular any more) rechargeables have a nice low internal resistance so they hold their voltage better under load.

Technobabble removed: get good rechargeable batteries and don't expect anything at all from cheap disposable batteries. Put those in your TV remote control or in a clock.

yeah I know.
You can't expect me to not bust it out once I get it wether or not I ahve rechargables handy.

Also, how much NAND memory is available for me to put stuff on, I know 64mb total, but Im trying to put 20mb and its filling up.

Duke3d (what I was really looking forward to) just goes black and freezes once I open it. :(

I know your new and obviously have not come from a gp32 background but you really should use the read me files and the user manual. Also there's a good help system on this site which you can troubleshoot by just typing in the problem. The reason I say this is because the more you get in to the gp2x the more questions are going to arise and your find that most can be solved this way without upsetting other members. Alot of users are nice to the odd question but get annoyed when multiple questions are asked without research being done before hand.

But congrats on the gp2x I know you will enjoy it and find our community helpful and unique.

I thought that you could only get the necessary files from the actual DukeNukem3D game, but someone found the .cfg online on the wiki. Is there somewhere I could get the .crp file online also? My Duke3D disc is MIA and I can't install it on my moms PC anyway.

where do I get the .gpr?

The GPR is the resource file. You need to copy it from the Duke Nukem 3D install CD, or from the installation of Duke Nukem 3D that you may have on your computer.
