Jordan mechner to release P.O.P source code.

Prince Of Persia creator Jordan Mechner has pledged to release the original source code for his groundbreaking Apple II platformer after his father found it in the back of a cupboard.

Writing on his blog, Mechner explains that he had presumed the game's source code lost for ever until his father sent over a box full of games he had found in the back of a closet - which included three 3.5" discs containing the code.

"So, for all 15 of you 6502 assembly-language coders out there," he writes, "I will now begin working with a digital-archaeology-minded friend to attempt to figure out how to transfer 3.5" Apple ProDOS disks onto a MacBook Air and into some kind of 21st-century readable format."

Very cool. Just wondering, as a non coder asking coders, how useful is 6502 assembly to work with? Is it something you could realistically port to modern platforms, or strictly territory for old school hardware enthusiasts?

A port would be a remake. Assembly on any platform is unique to that platform, and maybe its successors.

Well, you COULD use a combination between the original assembly code and some emulator to create a working game here ;)
