He's Manfred Albrecht Freiherr von Richthofen, a German flying ace who died during the last year of WWI. In the afterlife, he seems to have picked up some idiosyncracies that endear him to this community (his continuing impecuniary state drives him away, but his love of Chinese gaming handhelds invariably drags him back).

Damn I need to get into this. Where do I buy a transmitter? How long can I broadcast before the FCC yells at me for not having a license? Wait, can I just operate an Internet radio station? That seems way easier as I already have a server.

I'm not into radio, but my neighbour is (along with anything else to do with airwaves). He's got a huge mast in his back garden, along with a bazillion aerials on his roof and motorised satellite dishes. He was showing me his kit a few months ago, and it's pretty cool.

He's got his system all linked up so that he can dial into other transmitters over the internet and transmit over them (when he was showing me, he connected to one in Las Vegas) :/

He's also written some software which monitors the static and he can use it to detect things flying around in the air (planes, meteorites, etc). It works by detecting ground based transmissions bouncing back off things, and then does some crazy maths (all I know is it involves triangulating stuff :P).

errr.. sorry about the rambling. But yeah, I don't using radio :P
