Introducing the frankencontroller

I have absolutely no need for that.  If that silver is metal I really like it, and want to mess with one.  I would not pay that price for it, but if one appeared in my hands I might try to find a way to use it daily.

I remember Mad Catz being completely crap, and by doing a quick Google search, it seems that many other consumers think so too. After I bought my first accessories from them, I won't ever do it again. Everything that came in the bag was either already broken or didn't work properly.

oh wow! Picture 4 features a keyboard and gamepad layout similar to OpenPandora... Nice!

In my experience, Madcatz stuff is a bit crap, but better than most third party stuff. I used to swear by the Madcatz DC controllers as they were wider than the standard controller reducing pressure on my wrists (since I didn't seem to be able to learn not to grip it like a madman), and having six buttons was always nice, even if they were a little less premium-feeling than the original (and the disc d-pad was nothing to write home about).

I purchased The Cyborg... Seemed a great idea to be able to swap the D-Pad and left stick depending on the game. In reality, the block didn't sit right on the pins, and every so often, then controller would start thinking "down" was pressed and you had to hold your thumb between the pad and stick to stop it.

That said, the Street Fighter pads I got always seemed pretty good.

The Madcatz streetfighter pads were really quite good in terms of being responsive and accurate, but suffered from being incredibly flimsy and overpriced for what you got. I do have a Madcatz arcade stick from the same era somewhere though, and that's really quite well made, again if overpriced (but that's the way of things with arcade sticks these days - I miss the days of the ASCII-made DC arcade stick, which I bought for half the price of a standard controller).

I think my favourite third party pad is a HORI FPS pad. The layout is fixed - with both sticks at the top which is a little weird, but everything else on it is configurable, from the springiness to the length of the sticks. It cost more than a standard pad, but it's so much better made that IMO it's worth it. I always buy HORI if I can.

It's no where near the most expensive controller Mad Catz sells though, that honor goes to this $5,000 wonder:-  http://store.madcatz.com/categories/pro-flight-category/Saitek-Pro-Flight-Simulator-Cockpit-for-PC-and-Mac.html

Bad guys would love to own one of these!
"Flying: yes, landing: no" :D

I can't imagine normal, mortal gamers would buy such a monster. 5K$ is alot. Well there must be a market for such big controller sets but it can't be a huge one. Pure Flight Simulations are out of date since ages, can't even remember if MS still continues it's ancient "MS Flight Simulator" series.
