Well I have my First Interview on Wednesday, Anyone got and Tips on what to do and any idea of the sort of questions they ask at interviews? :D

Thanks

If you're asked if you found the place easily, always say yes even if you got lost several times - no one wants to employ a muppet that can't use a map (especially if the job involves going to meetings all over the country). Also don't turn up far too early and sit in reception for ages as it makes you look like a bit of a twat - sit in the car (if the car park is out of sight) or find a cafe or something. Finally, make sure you know what the company does - I once asked 15 people what they knew about the company they were applying to and only one person had bothered to find out what we did and who are clients were. Guess who got the job.

Be knowledgable about the position, role and responsibilities. State your keen to learn and want to progress in the role. You might get asked where you see yourself in a couple of years time (I use that one all the time)

Well I dont think I will get lost :D hehe, Its just turn right out my drive, drive for 1 minute, turn left and Im their :D

Also, I know what the company does, they make tyres and cabels and they used to make shoes a long time ago :)

Its a 4 year Apprentice thing that Im going in for then I go on to work with them.

Do you say things like Good Morning Mr "Insert Name here" while shaking their hand?

I think the Main thing is, I dont know what sort of Questions to ask. Is it ok to ask things like -

"Do you know when I will hear from you if I have got the job or not?"

"Is the training done at the local college?"

And how many questions do you need to ask is 2 or 3 enough??

Whats a good thing to do if you are stuck on answering a question they ask?? Im guessing sitting their silent untill they ask another question is a bad thing :p... Do you just make something up and hope it works :)

Also, I have my Record of Acheivment (With all Certificates from school like 100% attendance etc etc etc) so I will remember to take that :)

Thanks for the help :)

Never ask any questions....everything they say is right and their interviewing ability is perfect (probably isn't but pretend), if you are going to ask questions make out that the issue isn't that important but you wouldn't mind knowing.

Don't fold your arms its defensive and threatening in appearance.

Don't fidget.

Don't give them your record of acheivement unless they ask to see it, but don't hide it completely.

Just be positive about everything even if they tell you something about the job you really don't like the sound of.

And most important, don't be nervous at the end of the day they are just human beings, although I think Scott Adams would disagree.

ok, so if they say what do you see yourself in 10 years time, do you just say something like "Working as a fully qualified engineer for Pirellis"

(Pirellis is the name of the company :) )

I was told that you should ask questions because it makes you sound interested in the job. Not that I've ever had an interview.

Tell them the truth and just be yourself. An interview isn't about knowing the right answers to the questions (there are no right answers), it's about showing them who you are. Where do you see yourself in 10 years - working as an engineer?, running a team of engineers?, specialising in a certain area?, or if you don't know then just tell them that. I once answered that I didn't know where I wanted to be in 10 years and that I hoped that over time the job would give me the opportunity to see the various options available to me. I was told later that I got the job because I was the only person who didn't give some bullshit answer about working my way up in the company to become a senior manager or something.

Those are just the sort of questions you need to be asking. If it's something you want an answer to, then ask it. If they've already given you the answers during the interview then tell them that they've already answered all your questions. As for how many - it's however many you need to ask to get all the information you need. An interview isn't one way - you are interviewing them just as much as they are interviewing you. Both you and the company are looking to be working together for hopefully a long time, so it's important that they get the right person and you get the right company.

Just had my first ever interview at a different place today (a Food testing Laboratory :D), Im guessing its normal to feel a little nervous for the first 2 or 3 minutes isnt it?? Especially in your first interview?...

Anyway I think it went ok, Only question I got Stuck on was "Could you tell me 3 Words that describe yourself" and I only managed to say one :(.. (They are the questions I hate the most :( the ones that put you on the spot) but then he said would you say you are reliable and I said "Yes I have certificates for work and 100% attendance certificates" and then he asked to look at the Record Of Acheivement Folder so I think that helped me out great on that question as we got talking about how the Commendation Certificate system worked etc etc etc. :)

At least if I dont get the job, It was good experiance for future interviews :)
