Hey all,

After lots of inner turmoil I decided to start working on a tech demo for the Pyra since a lot of people have been calling the hardware overly-outdated which I don't think is true at all. Inertia Overdrive is a gles 2.0 powered game that targets native 720p, 60fps on the Pyra. If you're a fan of F-Zero I think you'll enjoy playing this game. Although I haven't been working on it for very long I hope you'll look forward to its release and the update posts I make along the way.

I would suggest making the cars different colors. That said, I can't wait to play this!

Wow, awesome. I'm excited to see where this goes. Any chance we'll get to see the source?

I might be able to release the source to a few interested parties, lots of the assets I'll be using will be licensed and so there might be some problems with going fully open source. I'd love to get some help pushing the hardware to the limit though, 720p60 is not a laughing matter when you're dealing with mobile gpus.

can always do open source code, "closed" source assets. but don't feel pressured :).

Sure, if you want a hand trying to get the most out of the sgx feel free to message me (I guess either source or a apitrace or something would be needed for reference though :)

Sweet, now I just need someone at TI to unlock the hidden 3rd & 4th cores and we'll be in business

Hi all,

@troy : 2 hidden cores inside the SGX544MP2 ? Interesting...

Looking forward to playing Inertia Overdrive on the Pyra :)

Cheers, Magic Sam

Nope, I assume this was a joke ;)

You rarely get 'disabled' or cut-down SoCs (unlike desktop GPUs etc) as they're normally much smaller die area (so less change of a defect being on each die) and the 'easily disable-able sections' are relatively smaller, so a defect is more likely just going to kill the whole die.

Plus the power and size margins are so thin on mobile SoCs all the routing/support silicon for an 'extra 2x cores' would make it completely noncompetitive compared to a 'true' 2 core design.

Here's a little in-engine action. Unfortunately without the hardware I can't make too many assumptions about how well the game will run. For now some stuff will remain low-poly / untextured because I'd rather make a graphics upgrade in the future and not a downgrade.

Got to reading a bit more on the 544mp2, looking forward to seeing solid performance! Don't keep me waiting @EvilDragon

That looks so cool. You are making the right choices. I love low poly, high framerate, native resolution gaming !
Clean video output, flawless fps.

Slowly but surely making some progress. Can't wait to get an actual Pyra to play with but the initial tests make me think it's all going to work out.

Nice initiative! Though this is a tech demo, I would like to see some native scene demos for the Pyra. I love demos, and they are a good way to push the boundaries of the hardware.
