I'm kinda curious why there's so many skin releases for the GP2X menu system but no icons? So far I've been making my own icons for each emulator I've downloaded. IMO, it looks a lot better than the generic .gpe icon:

(Sorry for the wierd image but I have the "LS" version, Long Screen :p)

So skin makers, start making icons! I'm sure the devs would want some for their emus :)

Hardware Icons

Um, how are we (as skin makers) supposed to now what emus folks have on their systems?

It's as easy as storing a .png with the same name as your .gpe on the card ...

Woah! Those look awesome!

Can I use your icons in my menu?
Sure, just need a place to upload them.

I'm going to "um", as well. Um...I'm not suggesting you should release icons with your skins and try to guess exactly what emus people have. The reason I was calling for "skin makers" in particular is because they obviously have some knowledge of gfx creation.

I'm saying we should make icons for the devs to release with their emus. Or possibly make seperate icon packs for people to download and use. Surely you've heard of icon packs for other systems? I just think it's a good idea to share the icons we make/use with everyone else, don't you?

I sure seemed like you were insinuating that we should include icons with our skins

Thanks by the way for uploading yours :) They indeed are very nice. (I'm recycling my old icons from Windups)

These are really nice! good work, I'm loading them up now.

This is exactly the kind of aesthetic polish (like the GPH switching the NAND/SD CARD around in the menus) that helps to convince non-believers and makes the thing look so much better designed from the outside. It might be worth sending a few PMs to the devs responsible for the emus and homebrews...

Can the GP2X do whatever-fancy-trick-it's-called where you can make links so when something looks for a file and finds a link with that name, it follows the link?

EDIT: Ah, it's called symbolic linking, and it should be supported...

SD cards are usually formatted with FAT or FAT32, and those file systems do not support symbolic linking.

Ah, yes. There goes that idea then. Another one will come past soon, I'm sure.

It's not really symbolic linking but I've been putting all games in a 'system' folder, all emus in the 'roms' folder and then creating a script to launch them in a '- Games -' or '- Emulators -' folder. this neatly hides all the extra folders and files required and just gives a nice list of files to run.

That sounds more complicated than it is!

I've been kinda doing the same thing. I have a bin directory where I put all the files (emulators, games, etc) and then I have a "Games" folder and an "Emulators" folder where I have scripts and icons that launches the programs. Works pretty well :)
