How Much Juice Can The Gp2x Handle?

So, I have an AC adaptor. One of those universal ones. Now, I've set it properly, but it being on 3 volts doesn't seem to provide enough for the GP2X to work. Can I safely bump it up to its next highest setting, namely 4.5 volts, or is that just too much for the little goody to handle?

Thanks in advance.

I'll piggy-back on your thread, and ask if it's normal that my 3V 300mAh AC cannot power up my GP2X? The screen just oscillates between on and off, and it doesn't get time to do anything.

300mAh is way too low, if memory serves. It needs about an amp.

The official one is 3.3V, 2A.
The back says 0-3.0A (SET AT 2.0A)

You need 3.3v, 4v may be too much. If you can find an adapter that supplies 3.3 then that's preferable.

As for the current, I would suggest a minimum of 2 Amps. Anything above 2 amps is just fine and dandy.

A quick note on current, the specified current is not what the unit supplies, it's what it can supply based on the demand of the unit connected to the power supply. So if your PSU is rated something like 3.3v 5Amps, then that is a good thing. The more amps the PSU can handle, the less strain on the PSU.

A side-effect of that however is that if your PSU can supply 10A (for example), and something happens in your gp2x that causes a short, you'll get the maximum current supply through it, and for the above amperage, that will literally blow it to pieces, depending on where the short is.

Therefore, it always good to go for a "happy medium", so a 2A supply is better than a 10A supply in that regard.

Think of it in the same way as the fuses you put in your plugs around the home - you don't put a 13A fuse in your PC for example, as it should never draw more than even 5A unless it's running a suite of PSUs together.

And for the love of gawd - Make sure the polarity is set correctly!
If you have it the wrong way the machine wont turn on and you'll quickly get a burning smell, then you'll need to send it off to get fixed :(

My universal adapter only give 3V (to lazy to check how much Ampere), which works fine... though it seems like its not enough to use the USB connection... it just won`t work when I use the adapter.
