I must say, I'm making so real, albeit slow headway with gngeo.
I don't have Rage installed anymore..just running from the shell.

SVCchaos, shows up in the list, I hit B (A does not work t start the game as I had thought) and I see the rom files load up, and then after they finish, I just garbled green blocks and the whole thing freezes)

What does that mean?

I see garbled green blocks for a few seconds before it actually goes to the game, maybe you're not waiting long enough (either that or you have a bad ROM) . . .

Sometimes you have to search through the barrel until you find a ripe apple. :)

Ok..then it's probably just a bad rom.
I've yet to get a rom working on gngeo, so step by step, I'm learning what is working and what is not...but I am making slow progress (having never played a NeoGeo..i hope it's worth it!!!)

Ditto here, I see the massive green, barring a small speck of color in the bottom left hand corner of the screen, I wait a few (10) seconds, and I'm playing Metal Slug. I think only one of the Roms I have doesn't do it.

Yeah, you have to wait a bit. If it shows the green garbled screen, that means the game loaded successfully. If you try it on the PC, the screen turns completely red instead for a few seconds.

Woah, what emulator are you using? I use Kawaks, and... I don't see any huge red screen.

NEWB needing help - I THINK I have the neogeo emulator running, it lets me select roms but then dumps me straight back to the menu screen.

Are these invalid roms or is the emulator missing BIOS files etc. (I have put some BIOS files in the roms directory the universal bios file as well).

Also are the roms supposed to be zipped or are they meant to be unzipped into the roms directory

Also can someone pls advise on the 'type' of neogeo rom I am supposed to be looking for as i understand different emulators use different roms of the same game (i.e different kinds of dumps etc.)

Thanks guys

Thanks

I am using the gp2x version I d/l from the GP2x file archive site
i didn't know they are actually the same ROMs MAME uses, thanks. I was using some roms that worked fine in NeoRAGE emulator. Will try fscking around some more

Yes, however interestingly the NeoGeo games which do work on MAME do not do this.

PS - I can't get V-liners to work, this seems to be an issue with most NeoGeo emulators it seems. Anyone got it working??

While in the main menu of rage2x, hit the select button. go down the list to system and change to unibios. Save and hit select to return to your main menu. Now you will not get all of the massive green stuff! :)
