i just got a GP2X and i want to stick some games on it but when i connect it via USB i hear the bells as it knows its there and i get little prompts like USB storage and Gadget serial

then it goes into wizard and asks me to install all the drivers for the device, which i dont have and because i cant install the drivers it wont let me connect it to my computer

all i want to do is put goodies on the memory card - i did have the same problem with my GP32

I get an error prompt 28, which is the drivers for this device are not installed - if that helps

Get a card reader for like 8 bucks at any CompUSA, Best Buy, Target...wherever. You're far better off with a card reader than going through the USB on the GP2X.

You should've gotten a install cd with your gp2x that has drivers for it..

Let it search for the drivers, they're just USB Mass Storage so they should be built in to the OS (windows xp?).

I've been using a card reader ever since I got my GP2x but I thought I'd give the USB connection a try just for the hell of it. As it turns out, I have the exact same problem you do and cannot get it to show up in XP no matter what. Go figure.

now got a memory card full of Neo roms and they work a treat (roms taken from v1.0 mame)

but for some reason i cant figure out how to get the megadrive emulator working

downloaded the latest drMD and all i get is patching MMU, please wait.....

and i dont know how to update the firmware - god i suck

are the roms zipped and how many have you tried ?
ive had this problem with some roms before but overclocking to 250mhz cured it. make sure all the mega drive roms are unzipped and in the roms directory

I think you need to follow that tutorial (on here somewhere) that explains the setup.

You need to install the linux.inf as the driver (if you haven't already?)

COPY AND SAVE THIS TO NOTEPAD AS linux.inf

;----------- begin linux.inf ----------------------
; MS-Windows driver config matching some basic modes of the
; Linux-USB Ethernet/RNDIS gadget firmware:
;
; - RNDIS plus CDC Ethernet ... this may be familiar as a DOCSIS
; cable modem profile, and supports most non-Microsoft USB hosts
;
; - RNDIS plus CDC Subset ... used by hardware that incapable of
; full CDC Ethernet support.
;
; Microsoft only directly supports RNDIS drivers, and bundled them into XP.
; The Microsoft "Remote NDIS USB Driver Kit" is currently found at:

I think you need to follow that tutorial (on here somewhere) that explains the setup.
-snip-
Actually, you're talking about two different drivers. Gadget is talking about the USB Ethernet one, and subcon is talking about the Mass Storage one, which are both entirely different.
