Maybe be a bit more specific: what kind of errors?

i dunno....dont think i have any, just bought a seagate 2tb external usb3, and wonna test it out, so everything i suppose, its brand new, but its seagate so i figure what the hay
 
Fsck would be the utility to use to check for errors. Hdparm could easily check performance of the drive and in some cases allowing for some rather dangerous features, and Ubuntu's hard drive analyzer (forgot the name of it) has a nice gui for remorting SMART test results.


That'd probably be all you need. I always format the drive with a better filesystem before running any tests, but that's just me. Keep in mind, though, that formating a 2TB drive takes FOREVER, or at least it did for me.
