Hi, I'm new to the scene (in fact I have not event bought a GP32 console yet but I'll definitly buy one real soon). I saw on gbax.com that there were modded Ericsson Keyboard for sale. I was wondering if it was hard to mod it by myself because there are a lot of cheap keyboards on eBay (plus, I live in Canada and the shipping fee from UK to here would be quite expensive if I bought it from gbax.com). Thanks!

P.S. sorry if this has already been asked

well, the thing is you need a harder to find model of a chatboard
the board is cheap, conector cheap, just needs soddering and of course you need the stuff
its the cha-01 , not to common on ebay , but available around
just buy from gbax and tell him to make it so doom allows you to use that keyboard lol

Anyone know where to get the connector? I've seen some chargers that should be compatible with it and all, but they only have a few pins on them :(

That's true. The exact compatible model you need is Ericsson Chatboard Cha-01, and that is not so common to find at ebay.

I think Chat-10 is also compatible but i'm not sure.

A Samsung T100 car charger or compatible has 4-pin enought for the modding.

Any T100,V205,A310,R225 car chargers or compatible have 4-pin enought for the modding.
Those are easier to get from ebay. ;)

Wantet to build some of the thngs for seling but never get arround to finaly do it, so here is my list ive collected.
The samsung a300 dtacable seems to be the cheapest way.
CHA-01 and CHA-10 are the only working chatboards on the gp,
get them cheap at ebay for 1eur, and one of the following plugs for handys.
Pleas keep in mind that you need at least 4 pins (you can move them arround), so some chargers/headsets may not work. also datacbales are cheap for some handys, arround 3EUR.
One of the names for the conenctor is 3050-18P-0.5 dont remember other ones.
Code:

Sagem My-C2
Mistubishi M320
Alcatel 531
LG G5300
Some shops selling the right connector are.

If you know other models/have other sources, pleas share them.

Now to the building.
solder your 4 wires to the extconenctor to the pins

10=TXD0/GPF2 yellow
18=Ground blue

15=RXD1/GPF1 white
16=TXD1/GPF3 yellow

now to the cb side the picture is from spivs site http://www.deadcoderssociety.tk thank you spivi :)

It can be that the orange cable can only be connectet to the smd and not to thepin before it, have to check that.
Finish!
Have fun with your new selfbuildet chatboard!

Maybe some mod can create a post in faq forum with this.

Important(!) the orange cable (+3.3v) is solderd to the smd resistor, NOT to the pin before it!

Whats wrong with soldering to the PIN before it?? I used a Continuity checker and Its liked to the SMD Resistor? Also, if you follow the track it goes to the SMD Resistor anyway...

Plus I have soldered to the Pin Before the SMD Resistor and it works perfectly...

Well, I dunno what version you have, but with my CHA-01 soldering it to the pin before the resistor made the GP32 switch off when plugging the connector in...

hmm, have to try thatm iam sure it didnt work with the pin before it... i correct it after checking

Please check ASAP before I send them out, it works for me... Thanks

EDIT,

Ok, I just Tried Edge Write and I Plugged and unplugged all the chatboards I have made so far while the GP32 was running and in Edgewrit And they Worked Perfectly, The GP32 kept going and didnt turn off or anything

its the CHA-01 board

Soldering to the 1st pin works fine in my opinion :p

Ooooh, that has instructions and everything... Thanks a lot. I'd go to GP32world.com, but I'm not too confident that my Spanish is good enough to do this from the instructions there.

Vimacs, did u try soldering directly to the pin instead of the Resistor?? out of 16 chatboards I have modded, all 16 work with the wire being soldered directly to the pin...

I know why yours Did that when u soldered to Pin 1.

Do you see that gold coloured track that runs right around the outside of the circuit board? If you bridged pin 1 over to that gold track it makes the GP32 turn off.

As long as you dont connect that track to Pin one, Pin one is fine to solder to :D
