Alright!
A common topic lately on the help section of the board has been issues with a ThinkGeek-sold GP2x Wiz. Many have been having issues with pocketSNES, and gPSP specifically. And I myself have had issues with a few other things, such as gMenu2x.
A few times, this has been questioned as a hardware issue, but of that, I have yet to be convinced. For this reason, I have pulled my own unit apart, and taken a few pictures. I'm hoping that someone who has a working pre-"ThinkGeek" Wiz, will be able to do the same, so we can at least do a minor comparison of the hardware.
I myself did a rather quick comparison to the Wiz provided in the D-Pad pivot mod, and didn't see anything drastically different, but I could be mistaken(and the pictures of the board itself in the D-Pad mod are not the clearest).
So here are my findings(album link [here]):
- On the side of the battery cavity, my Wiz is marked: GPX-GP2X-Wiz(B)
- The board itself is marked: GP2X-WIZ VER7.0(2009.06.02)
Those are the two primary observations I made. Considering this revision was released only a month after the Wiz itself was released, it seems unlikely that there are true issues with this board, unless production buffered the original waaaaaaaaaaaay out.
I am curious to know what changed in only a month's time, and why this unit is marked "(B)".
So now I would like to hear opinions of those who are a bit better rooted in Wiz's history, or someone who has not had the issues ThinkGeek purchasers had willing to pop their own system open and take a few pictures.
Also, if the pictures are not clear enough, let me know, I can try and take better ones without the flash and with a tripod. I may do so anyhow.
For those who missed it, the album is: [here]
