hey, I'm relatively new to this and so I apologise in advance if theres an answer elsewhere!

I have Gngeo running with a gui on my GP2X fw2, runs mslug np without sound and no clocking. I can also run it with the --sound option on the cmdLine however any kind of cpu over clocking either causes a blcak screen or loading bars but it hangs. I was wondering if im missing a utility or something, or mebe its becos ive got fw2 ?

you're lucky GnGeo doesn't even work for me.

dude =/ whats up with it? I've only got one metal slug working but i think its something to do with encrypted roms or something, I need to apply a patch. The other roms i have just return me to the 'start' screen.

You must have bad rom dumps, all the metal slugs work fine for me and i guess most people.

Try finding the roms again on the net and trying those...

mm i have mslug working its just i want to play with sound (--sound), with sound enabled it works but sloath so i try the cpu speed option to clock to 266 (--cpu_speed=266) and i get either a black screen or stops at the loading bar phase  .

just wondering if its a fw2 compatibility problem or if im missing another utility that clocks the cpu, as i heard of a individual clocking utility and that its not compatible with fw2?

Don't use the CPU speed.....use the GNGeo's internal overclocker. When you arrive at the main menu of GnGeo, press the top most face button (X, I think?) about 5-6 times and at the bottom of the screen you'll see the GP2X overclocked to 266 and the sound bit rate decreased (it's pastel colored which makes it hard to see). Good Luck!! :)

yeah thats what ive been trying but all i get is a flash of a cursor and then a black screen =/ just out of interest you guys with it working, are u running mk2s? or fw2? and i don't think its a bad dump since the rom works without sound and with sound (--sound) but not with any cpu speed option! or could it be

This might just be me being a noob cause ive not got my GP2X yet but i ordered today. Anyway ive been reading up recently and i think you need to make sure you have the .gfx files for Metal Slug 2, 3, 4, 5 and X. Maybe thats right maybe not i dont know for sure but you should prolly check to make sure you have them.

well it might be that your unit cannot safely overclock to 266 mhz in gngeo. I have the same problem. In the main folder of gngeo there should be a file called gngeo_config... it contains the command line parameters and along with them also the desired clockspeed that you will be able to chose. Instead of 266, put 250 there. That works fine for me with sound...

Another hint: change the sound sample rate in the config to 11025 KHz from 22050 KHz. With this many games are quite playable at 200 MHz WITH sound. The sound is slightly more aliasy but it is still good and much better than playing silent.

I have the "jumping back to main menu" porblem. The problem is that when trying to run from gngeo2x jumps back to main menu. When running from Rage2x system hangs up, no blank screen, just hangs up.

Have the right bios files accordingly to wiki, have tested uni-bios. Tried 200 Mhz clocks, tried switching arcade to home, tried lower sampling rate, tried 10 different roms, tried clean install.

Using FW 2.0

So by now, I give up. I think the problem is with bad roms or bioses but cant find any more of them to try.
=(

BTW: all roms work well with windows emulator.

This emu is the most complicated to get going. You have to have the right versions of the ROMs with the right bios and have the combinations of these things set right. I am still having trouble getting all supported games to work. It is a lot of dicking around and trial and error. I think you just don't have the right ROM versions. Once you get it though it is great.

I have found that most of the time you can just rename the rom's to match the romrc file names.
(Or vice versa.)

Whichever way just make sure the same file names are being used.

Oh and don't use Notepad for the romrc.

Yeah, just have to try more then, maybe I get it working. =)

Make sure you have all of the BIOS roms including newest uniBIOS *unzipped* and in the "roms" directory where your games are. Your game roms can be zipped but not the BIOS.
