I have released Gmu 0.5.0!

Release highlights:

* Musepack (MPC) support
* FLAC support
* Time display can be toggled between elapsed and remaining time
* Improved track info screen now including more information (title, artist, album, track number, year, length, samplerate, channels, bitrate, file type and file name)
* Improved cover loading: Cover images are now loaded int the background to avoid blocking of the GUI

Besides those changes there are a few other minor changes and bugfixes.

wejp, thanks for all your effort, this one should hit the front page, many people are interested in Gmu :)

Realy thanks wejp for MPC and flac support :D now i have my audio player for my GP2x ;)

This is gonna be the definitive gp2x audio player, thank you very much!

Is it any improvement in CPU usage for lower MHz?

Thanks for this GMU player!
I don't know for sure, but I suspect that it takes a little more CPU usage. I'm only going off of my experience with the last version (0.4.0) where I could underclock to 150 MHz and not have any effect on the playback (even when playing around with the file browser and scrolling through my long song titles). Now there seems to be a bit of a hiccup on the playback when I try and do other functions at 150 MHz (with v. 0.5.0)

There should not be a difference compared to 0.4.0 in cpu usage except for one thing. I have made big changes to the cover loading stuff, which _might_ result in a slightly increased cpu usage while loading a cover. I need to test this a little more. But as you say there is a difference in cpu usage compared to 0.4.0 I think I'll check the overall cpu usage as well. Maybe I have done something where I wasn't aware that it needs some more cpu time. For future versions I have planned to adjust the cpu frequency on demand, so Gmu can reduce the cpu speed when it does not need it and increase it, when more cpu demanding files are played.

WOW, that will be really cool, I hope it becomes a trend followed by application developers, were the application itself dynamically overclock/lowerclock the CPU depending on whats needed, this will boost battery lifetime for many programs/emulators/homebrew.

For things that might need overclocking an option in the config menu were users add their max stable cpu overclock so the software never exceeds while it is dynamically overclocking, this will even rock more :) but this option wont be needed for GMU at all I guess, I never experimented with clock speeds while using it, but from what you all guys are saying it seems like it is working perfectly under 160 mhz, cool :)

Kudos for your excellent software!

Does your todo list include the removal of gaps between consecutive tracks, where tracks are supposed to flow together without interruption?

Eventually I will probably add gapless playback, but at the moment there are a few other things I want to add first. Another problem is, that I don't really have many files that are meant to be gapless, so it is a little difficult to test it. ;)

Wow, I have lots of CDs that have no gaps - big fan of opera :). If you need any help testing such a feature in the future, please let me know.

wejp , probably the most CPU usage are the graphics cause the SDL blitting it is very slow, i know that myself cause i only know how to program games with SDL and it is the worst thing.

There are two ways to improve the blitting:
Use TTF fonts instead graphics.
or
You could do the graphics with minimal lib. (which is a good thing to know how to use if u have plnned to program other stuff).

What do you think?

Cheers!

Okay, thanks.

Are you sure rendering TTF fonts is less cpu demanding than just blitting bitmaps on a surface? I would expect the opposite.
Besides that, since I don't draw more characters on the screen in this version than in the last one (at least not in the file browser and playlist browser), there must be something else that needs the additional cpu time, if this version really needs a higher cpu clock than the previous version. I haven't checked that myself in detail, so I can't really say much about it yet.

As for the minilib, I haven't used it before and can't say anything about it. Maybe I'll have a look at it and see if it is worth using it.

great update! i appreciate seeing time remaining vs. time elapsed. i also noticed that you improved the gradient in volume settings, great :)

things i'm looking forward to most:

- option to display cover artwork on playlist screen (looks great with the old white font with black boarder)

- option to turn backlight on again when switching the track switches (BacklightPowerOnTrackChange=yes). this would be slick during random play, glance at the gp2x to see what just came on.

- fast forward/rewind in tracks

thanks again for the best player wejp!

edit: i can't figure out how to set the keys to scroll stretched album art up and down, after skimming through default.keymap and README ... i know i had this working before ... any hints?! edit2: i got it! you can move the cover art work up and down if you toggle away the text.
