ive got a psx disc, but what do i have to take of the psx disc in order for the emulator to run it?

im not to sure in want to get roms ehem... lol we wont go into that

You have to rip it onto your hard drive as a .bin file (should also create a .cue file).

EDIT: Could you please make your sig smaller?

to much lol's make you look stupid :)
just create a cd image, most popular burning apps should be able to do that, alcohol120%, clonecd, nero, cdrwin, whatever

You need to get a program that can rip disc "images" onto your hardrive. There are many different formats of disc images, such as .iso, you need to rip it to a .bin file. I haven't found any good freeware program that can do this yet....

lol - i know the legal issues involved, but i havet found a rom site that i think is safe enough to do it

so im thinking the original disc would be better lol

If the reason you don't want to is because of legal issues...it is legal to download a rom if you own the game
Don't think so, atleast if you ask corporate lawyers. :(

Though, according to them, you're not allways even allowed to play the game you own. :p

ISO's seem to work, aswell.

Alright yo, assuming I.. Own the original game, where's a decent place to download ROMs that doesn't involve spyware/dodgy popups?

it is not legal to download roms just because you have the original

the whole issue about copyright currently hinges on whether or not you can legitimately make copies of what you own, currently legislation seems to be suggesting that you can only own the media in its original form i.e. music on a cd.

p.s. if you don't wanna get banned don't ask for rom sites

you are allowed to make copies of what you own, but you may not circumvent copy protections, so you can only backup stuff that isnt copy protected.

Not necessarily. If you read most psx game manuals they say something like:

<company> grants you the limited right and licence to use one copy of this product solely and exclusively for your personal use

They have to actually "say" you are allowed to make a copy in the licence (or at least not say you can only have one copy), otherwise it's not legal.

I use CDR-Win and rip whatever game on the slowest setting, and it gets you a bin/cue file on default.

I then used pocket ISO and shrunk it, and games work fine. Well they load w/ bad framerates of course lol

The licenses are made with american laws (copyright) and is only valid in USA(and possible some other countries) in other countries it is the local laws that is valid and in some countries it is possible to make copies without breaking any laws.

In sweden for example you have to sign something (contract/receipt) and be able to read the licence before you buy the game, otherwise the licence is just crap that you havent agree to.
