From GP32EMU:
I'm chatting at the moment with Chui, porter of SDL and coder of an image viewer and music player.

Chui is porting VisualBoyAdvance; a Gameboy Mono, Gameboy Color and Gameboy Advance emulator, as we speak :) The GBA part is not going to be advanced, maybe it'll run some basic demos and homebrew stuff, but the main aspect of the emu is going to be to emulate the Gameboy and Gameboy Color.

At the moment, it's not optimised (only 4 hours of work), but it runs Gameboy and Gameboy Color games at full speed with autoframeskip, including the 3 Zelda games.

Sound is working, but still buggy, because Chui's sdl port still needs DMA sound, but it's being worked on.

Expect more progress soon.

I know a lot of people slag the GB/GBC games, but the good thing about those games is that they were designed for a small, two button handheld machine. They're not too complicated, and despite what some people claim, they're usually fun to kick around for five or ten minutes.

I want Amiga, Genesis, and SNES emulation as bad as the next guy, but some of those GBC games are quick and dirty, and great for killing a ten minute car ride.

amen :D i like gbc games, they are fun even tho they aren't very advanced...i think people are stoooopid as heck when the poopoo a game just because it has bad gfx <_< . like i was sharing the good news of gp32 with my friend and told him it was better than a gba and he said:'can it play playstation games? (me) no (him) can it play n64 games? (me) no (him) then its not better than gba!!! <_< people make me sick

that's the part where you call him a fanboy :)

Someone should port a n64 emulator to GP32 whether it works or not. Just to say there one. Could be quite funny...

Maybe it'll emulate the way GBAs play mono gameboy games (pallette selection at startup), that'd be pretty cool.

I totally agree with all above comments, Gameboy is an excellent system to emulate, don't forget that some of the really old gameboy games (still the best version of tetris) are great and only a few k.

For gameboy I'd like to see an emulator that is Girlishly simple, I don't think it needs all those options, maybe savestates but I'd happily do without them as long as it had sram saves.

...Just something pick-up-and-play like you were playing on a GBA, with the 'R' button to select standard or stretched screen. and the 'L' button for fastforward or frameskip if necassary (I don't really think frameskip is needed - only out of curiosity when your fiddling around with other options or effects.)

A good simple GB/GBC emulator is just what the Doctor ordered :D.

The 3 Zelda games are great. Graphics do not come into it.
Many, many other great games exist for the GB and having a few on your GP32 would be very cool.

Making it very easy to use would be a bonus as emu's like Black's gpEngine can just be picked up and played however others require stacks of clicking and fiddleing that is just not fair on the average mate you have just grabed your GP32 for a quick blast ;).

GPVGB currently plays all the game+watch gallery games, perfectly.. you can't beat that for pick up + play, they may be too simple for some though.

erm, I don't understand the logic behind those questions, it doesn't make any sense

can gba play playstation or n64 games, no so then how can the gp32 not playing those games make it worse than the gba, we all know why the gp is a better system but saying its worse because it can't emulate those systems is just plain stupid

I enjoy the current, version of the gpvgb gameboy emulator, its allowing me to relive my teenage years :)

though, the slightly crackly sound, is a bit of a pain is bearable to play older games again :)

yes, they made no sense at all <_< i was thining about hitting him REALLY hard :p in the face  but really why would it be worse if it didn't :(

Does anybody know if this emu will support playing gb mono games in color (putting a mono game in a GBC)?

There is a tool at zophar.net to edit the palette of GBmono roms and converts to gbcolor roms. Its very difficult to use though.

I hope this emu's just as perfect for GB/GBC emulation as LittleJohn is for NES :D dont get me wrong though; I do love GPVGB as it pretty much plays a lot of roms decently, but some of my favorite games just happen to either have garbled graphics or are rather slow speed wise, if not then sound (try playing the Zelda Oracle series to see what i mean about the "sound" part)

Oh, and I once noticed this tool to change the pallete of a GB rom too, I could never figure how to work it :( Anyone provide me with a tutorial or what, or will I have to hope that this new emu features the pallete changing option the GBC introdouced for mono games? :p

You can find pre made pallete files, so you just have to open the ROM, open the pallete file, then save the ROM, but I tried that on Meteroid II, and it didn't work in GPVGB (and it did work on computer emus)

Not too difficult, but I haven't found any rom (tried about 20 or 30) which still runs after the modification... (except Metroid, but someone already colorized it)
The authors' GBColorizer is still buggy and sadly he doesn't answer any eMails...

I really would like colorize all the favourite GB Games!
