hello

for those who only have a game utilization of their pandora, is it imaginable to have a sort of mini-os to boot on?
Just like those we can meet on other consoles
for example with dingoo here:

so not necessary a command line interface.

It will be a mini-OS that will be only dedicated for launching games (no wifi/bluetooth/internet etc... things not necessary for games)
this could have some advantages such as: a very short boot time because of less things to load (so we can switch on/off quickly) , better performances of emulators since some resources won't be used for something else than games, a greater battery autonomy, and probably other advantages... :)

At one point I'd cut down the OS so it boot with almost nothing, straight into minimenu; the trick is to do that in a nice sustainable fashion, keeping all the standard libs (so all apps will run), but keeping boot time down and not having any unnecessary background tasks. ITs certainly doable and has been done, but doing it in such a fashion - ideally as a 'subset' of the main firmware so that it can be produced at the same build time - would be way cool, and needs someone to adopt it; once we get more units into more hands, probably some folks can step up to such a task.

So in short .. minimenu is one pretty good candidate launcher, getting more and more refined down over time; there are others, and I'm sure we'll also trim down the OS sometime as well .. but if you select minimenu as your 'environment', its pretty much what you're looking for, now.

I love the battery gauge on your random pic :D

Almost as usefully informative as the tab names :)

for the ones who only want to play:

Game Boy Advance AGS-101 + Flash Cart

30 $ + 50 $ = thousands of retro games

not agree with you.
you can't play ps1 games on a GBA, and there is no nubs and the autonomy is not the same, the screen is not as large, and you can't have a paint application on a gba^^

He said for those that only want to play, and he's right. There are a lot of fun non-PS1 games that don't require a keyboard that will run on a GBA.

But there's so many more that do! :p

if you wanna play ps1 games just buy a psp = 150eur

if wanna play old school games, a gba + flash cart is only 80 eur.

there are also emus for GBA, so you have a wide range of platforms:

Emulators on Game Boy / Advance

Arcade - Multiple System (1)
Arcade - Single System (6)
Bandai - WonderSwan / WonderWitch (1)
Chip-8 (1)
Coleco - ColecoVision (3)
Emerson - Arcadia 2001 (1)
Microsoft - MSX (1)
NEC - Turbo Grafx 16 (1)
Nintendo - GameBoy (3)
Nintendo - NES (5)
Nintendo - SNES (2)
Sega - Master System / Game Gear (3)
Sharp X-1 Turbo (1)
Sierra AGI (1)
Sinclair - ZX / Spectrum / QL Series (2)
SNK - Neo Geo Pocket (1)

both options will give you instant availability at cheap price

^ Parts of that list are *very* misleading. Anyone who's ever tried the SNES emulator for the Game Boy Advance can tell you that. :p It does indeed have some good ones, though.
