All of a sudden, inside my "Apps & Emus" folder appears this folder; "folder settings" ... it wasn't there before, and Windows doesn't see it.

I keep all my scripts insde "Apps & Emus" and have been changing them via Programmer's Notepad (just changing the CPU speed values, and I didn't change every one, just 3 or 4) Now when I go into the folder, I see this new one ... where the hell did it come from??? And how can I get rid of it???? (short of reformatting the card ... )

cant you delete it though 1.4.0s explorer.

Hey, good idea .. 'cept I hate that FW .. you can't delete folders in 1.2.0, can you?

Ok, now ths is getting wierder!!! In the GP2X explorer, I found the following files inside the "folder settings" folder:

Folder.htt
mincold.gif
minhot.gif
pluscold.gif
plushot.gif
wvleft.bmp
wvline.gif

^ I viewed these in the GP2X's photo viewer and they seem to belong to some app; it's 2 "-" signs and 2 "+" signs, and a small rectangle with some colored boxes and a underline ...

All I can muster up to say is WHAT. THE. FUCK!?

So I deleted the "Apps & Emus" folder (saving my scripts), and put a new one with all my scripts ... so it's gone for now. I still don't know how it got there and why windows doesn't see it ...

I have no boot scripts, no NAND locking thingies, and I'm using Win2K Pro. After looking at the images, I'm thinking it was generated by some app or other ... I just don't know which.

As we say in the industry, it's "non-service affecting", but I'd sure like to know how/why it got there, and why it's invisible to windows

It is possible that you have some application running in Windows that generates these folders. The application can make the special folder be hidden from Windows by the use of hooks into the Windows kernel. What is in Folder.htt? Maybe that will give some hint as to what created it.

I don't know ... I can't view any of these files in Windows, I can only view the images on the GP2X itself. I've since deleted the "apps & Emus" folder, and made a new one ... so they're gone (hopefully for good!)

.htt is for "Microsoft Hypertext Template " according to filext.com ... very wierd

are you running IIS or anything like that? normally i'd say these are files that windows puts in a folder to save custom views of it...but i ran win2k for a long time and never saw those. then again, if windows hides them then that would explain it.

certainly nothing is wrong with your gp2x, the problem, if there is one, is with your computer. just to be on the safe side you should run ad-aware, spybot, and hijackthis.

Thanks :) I'll double check for any nasties.

Folder.htt is inserted by Windows when you do folder customization -- and the files are not normally shown because they're either +s (system) or +h (hidden).

Set your Folder Options to display hidden files AND system files (just to be sure), and you should be able to see and delete the files.
