Flash Is Dead; Long Live OpenFL!

AFAICT that doesn't help users to play SWF files only flash developers to keep their tools. Didn't know that was a major concern on the Pandora/Pyra. Is it?

It's actually kind of a step backwards in that respect. It allows developers familiar with Flash to compile directly for a target platform: even if they target Windows and Linux desktops, they're still targeting x86 which doesn't help Pandora/Pyra at all. At least with Flash there's some kind of chance of getting it to run.

Unless the dev releases their code under some kind of open source license and it can be compiled for the Pandyra directly, then it helps.

What if I told you... you can write about new engines/IDEs without shouting "Flash is Dead"?

Shouting "Flash is dead" is a very cheap (and dated) way to get attention.
