F##k Nintendo

The cards have always been a gray area.

The cards for DS Phat and DS lite (R4/CycloDS etc) were not illegal until you installed/flashed the firmware files onto them.

It's starting to piss me off.. Nothing is allowed in Australia!

Internet censorship, tv censorship, video game ratings & everything getting banned!
Can't ride trail bikes, cant hunt, cant swear in streets, some areas you cant even smoke in public (no effect on me, but still!).

I WANT TO DO STUPID SHIT!

AAAARRRRGGGHHHH!

As much as I like my DS and my Wii (with I wouldnt really enjoy as much without the wode and homebrew channel) I think they should embrace the idea of third party devices for storage of legally purchased games and homebrew which would boost their sales and please customers who dont wanna lug around 50 freaking cartriges. Oh, and I really wish that Nintendo would STOP FORCING US TO USE THAT FUCKING TOUCHSCREEN! Sure it works well for some things, but not all things. Give us alternate control schemes that use BUTTONS. they are there for a reason. How's that for an idea? They really messed up Starfox cause of that freaking touchscreen control scheme.

And in regards to piracy, people wouldn't steal DS games if they were priced more fairly and didn't suck. Ok, some people stil would. But how many DS games have you forked over money for that you managed to finish in a day or two because they have zero depth, poor gameplay and shit implementation of hardware features? So it's like game studios are saying "we know your're gonna play it now cause you've already payed for it." But I suppose that is not Nintendos problem unless it's THEIR crappy game that someone pinched off the internet.

As much as Nintendo are my favorite out of the big gaming giants, and as much inovation as they display in the hardware side of things, they are missing some major points. Piracy is rampant because people are sick of being swindled and told what they can and cant do, or what they can or cannot have for the hardware they purchase.

Pretty much none, because I have tried each game before I bought it on my Super Card. Still bought about 40 games, most of which I would never have known about without piracy. I'm glad I still live in a somewhat free country. What the fuck is up with Australia lately?

Whats up in Australia is we are governed by ass-backward wankers who wouldn't know shit from clay when it comes to basically anything that doesn't involve taxing the arse out of people. A small country trying to mix it with the big boys is basically what Australia is, and I'm not referring to the actual land mass, but our population is only around 22 million people or something. For fucks sake, our Minister for Environment, Heritage and the Arts (yes, that position exists in our government) is the ex lead singer of a retarded hypocritical liberal left fucking whiney ass pseudo punk band (to any Midnight Oil fans reading this, sorry, but fuck Peter Garrett)

Violence in video games? Start trying to ban anything that contains adult content instead of introducing a more appropriate rating system and asking to cite ID at point of sale. Parents cant monitor their idiot kids internet access or keep them from inappropriate content? Censor the whole fucking internet. They recently introduced laws to penalise people who are drunk in public by fining them $240 and actually keeping record of the charges, which they never used to do before. Nothing wrong with that right? WRONG, now the police basically go and wait for people to walk out of the pub and arrest and fine them for... wait for it... HAVING GONE TO THE FUCKING PUB! Dammit, if my right to drink beer, look at tits or play videogames is compromised, I'm moving to fucking Canada.

Oh and back on topic, fuck nintendo.

I bought some really horrible games and decided to get my acecard just to play games before I shelled out money for them. Seriously, most of the games on DS would sell for $0.99 on a iphone yet the cheapest I've found game for is $14.99.

I do own a few games that I play on my acecard like Contra 4, The New Super Mario Brothers, Cradle of Rome, and I want to get Black Sigil: Blade of the Exiled since I've almost passed it. The latter would have been to annoying without the avoid encounters cheat that you can only get on a flash card.

I think every DS game should have a demo mode that you can get from the Nintendo website so you don't throw all your money away on games that should have cost $0.99. Until then I'll download games to try them out first.

Sadly I did. :( Man I got suckered. I really disliked the former PM and his party. Apart from being ultra conservative, they toed the Bush line, lied about the war, demonised refugees, it went on and on. We were fed the "freedom" and "way of life" propaganda that the entire West was being fed, and to me it just meant invasion, resources, power. They had to go. What did we get? A conservative administration the likes of which we've never seen, and large scale attacks on our freedom - not from so called terrorists, but the people we voted in. Ughghghghh.

So yeah, f##k Nintendo.

Not feeling much sympathy, the flashcart makers decided to rip off legitimate vendor IDs to make their flashcarts work.

That said, I love flashcarts. To be perfectly honest, money is not the issue for buying games, it is just the effort it takes to actually go to the store, wait in line, etc. Or worse, wait a week for the game to get to you. And, I hate having to carry around all my carts (Especially Pokemon! WHAT IF I LOSE MY SAVE!?!) I do not pirate many DS games, though. I have plenty of better things to do than run through hundreds of DS games, so I only end up playing the ones I think are the best, and if I like them enough to play all the way through, then I will order a legit copy for my collection.

True story: My friend online told me about the Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney games for DS. I thought the entire concept was stupid, and never would have bought them, but I did decide to try it out on my flashcart. I loved it! I played all 4 of the games in the series, then went out and bought legit copies of all 4. Then, I bought about $60 worth of Phoenix Wright merchandise at at ComicCon '09 from the Capcom booth. Plus, I have convinced several friends to buy all the games.

Moral of the story? Flashcarts can help make devs money, in theory.

I hope you bought Ace Attorney Investigations? I'm about halfway through the fifth case already. B)

And to all Australians, do something about it: http://www.pirateparty.org.au/

Bumping this to continue the Aussie censorship topic. I don't think RedBaron will mind.

Communications Minister Stephen Conroy has had the phrase "ISP Filtering" censored from a tag cloud on his own website.

The "censorship" of his own site was first discovered by Whirlpool broadband forum user "Rupple" and later blogged by Pure Geekdom. The minister's website has a piece of JavaScript in it that prevents the phrase "ISP Filtering" from appearing in a tag cloud that shows popular search terms on the minister.dbcde.gov.au website.

Conroy-code.jpg

The above code snippet says that the term "ISP Filtering" be ignored when generating the tag cloud, effectively censoring it from the most popular search topics on the front page of the minister's site. To see a video demonstration, here is a YouTube video showing how the script works.

What's the deal, minister? Don't you want the public to know just how "popular" your ISP Filtering scheme is?

Unfknbelievable.

Wait, Angela, you didn't buy a DS for your 8 year old son?! That's cold, sister. More power to you though, doing the whole two mum family and everything.
I love how Angela in her many guises can swear profusely, but as soon as someone mentions the word 'knob' a forum apocalypse occurs :D
