Hi all, is there a connector on the GP2x that will allow a gp32 modded
chatboard for use on the new handheld? I know a driver would need to be
made for the GP2x but is there an actual physical connection available on
the new handheld that would work with the chatboard for those that
already have the system(ie craig, evildragon)? The pics on both systems
aren't as specific as i'd like. Perhaps a usb adaptor for the modded
chatboard connection has been seen by someone in the forum.

Is the modded chatboard self-powered also?

I've searched for a mini self-powered usb keyboard but no luck on google.
The modded chatboard is the perfect size for portability though and i'd
rather have one device to play games and type on rather than a GP2x and a
separate pda with an IR keyboard. My pockets are big but not that big.

The extra bulge could be embarrassing.

Thanks in advance. Joe.

There are some alternatives:
-Crappy projection keyboards. Expensive, awesome and impractical from what I have read...
-Foldable PDA keyboards. Is there one with USB?
-Frog (???) keyboard... Was one handed if I remember right and had some innovative key layout... Again, don't know if it has USB.

well, there will again eb uart on the ext port, so provided we find a fitting connector it should be possible.

There's a Swedish invention where you strap 2 thingies to the inside of your hand and they read your finger movement and knows what key you would press on a regular keyboard. Would take some skill to use though.
having 2 strap on thingies sounds rather kinky and almost quite illegal to me.

We'll have to ask Anna H at GPH if she has given this new strap on attachment a vigorous testing.

Just happened to find out that there are fabric keyboards commin soon. Similar to the rubber keyboards these can be folded up to take little space but the fabric is much thinner so it takes up less space. It got about the same area as a regular keyboard though.

i'd like something that could be attached at the rear of the gp2x unit, and that you could easly dispose of without removing it from the unit. I guess it needs to be something custom though.

Frogpad seems annoying to learn since I'm used to qwerty style.
I don't think it'd take long to get used to it. You wouldn't get quite as much speed out of it but you should be able to come close enough in a few days...

What would be cool is an infrared connection. Then hook up a Psion Revo+ via IR and you've got a small, but quality keyboard.Plus you could probably use its touch screen as a input device for things like drawing packages and mouse pointers

I was just wondering, as the GP2X has the same EXT. port as the GP32, won't the chatboard work anyway? Or am i just making assumptions?

on the new pictures of the gp2x, it looks like its the same.
so you just have to port the code to use it in programs over to the gp2x, shouldnt be hard.

Even if the pins do not match, I'm sure that someone will make a converter.

These are the type of things that even I could make at home. The software will be teh tricky bit.

That PS2 keyboard (no, not ps/2, I mean the Playstation 2's keyboard thingy in that first post) looks really trendy. :) You probably could get a stand for the gp2x, and then use the keyboard. The screen's big enough, isn't it?

Don't forget that the GP2x has buttons and a joystick of its own, so you can get mouse control by using the joystick and buttons.

The only problem about having a keyboard mod is that someone probably can come up with a really awesome custom keyboard design and stuff, but who's going to manufacture it? :(
