Here's a tutorial written by Takedown and published on Pandoralive on how to use a DisplayLink USB adapter to have a full HD desktop working on a monitor connected to the Pandora :)

I use it at the moment but for sure don't enjoy it.

When moving the mouse uses +50% of the CPU it's nt enjoyable any more ;) .

Is that.....Is that a windows logo background on the Pandora?
I just love screwing over people that think it can run windows natively.

As for using it to play videos and stuff, it's not really the best for it but you generally won't be using the big screen for playing anyways. Me, personally, I just use it at my office as my otg computer in case I forget my laptop at home.

Askarus, do you know why cpu usage has increased? Anything one could do about it (buying different hardware?).

Is it really that bad?

I didn't hear about such issues when people mentioned it worked before...
Yes, it is.

(With Full HD. Didn't try HD or lower).

1: Encryption

DL is paranoid that anyone would steal there compression method which is "super secret and better than any other method)

2: Compression

Video needs to be compressed.

3:

Not the whole screen is transported via USB but only what changes.

CPU is involved in this.

4:

No GPU acceleration or such I suppose.

On the blog comments, Takedown says it was a UGA-165. I'm finding two different ones on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004AIJE9G/

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008I1LBLA/

They both say they have a "DisplayLink DL-165 Chipset", but the first one says "No support for Linux at this time" and the second one says "Open source available for Linux and other platforms--for advanced users only because of manual xorg.conf editing." Is the first description just out of date?

If that's so, how is there is a driver for the Pandora?

Sorry to bump an old topic, but I wonder if DisplayLink is the only solution for Pandora High-res video. Are there other chipsets which could be supported with reasonable effort?

I found several similar products and I wonder if some of them could work:

Amerry Smart TV http://www.amerry.de/smart-tv-connector/

LogiLink adapters http://logilink.com/Products_LogiLink/HDMI/HDMI_Converter.htm

EDIT: While I'm at the subject, which DisplayLink chipsets (165, 195, 3100, 3500, 3900) are supported by Pandora? Are USB 3.0 adapters supported in USB 2.0 mode?

I bought an IOgear which has a Displaylink 165 chip in it, worked out of the box with the above instructions. It's a USB2, the USB3 later ones will be better for the future as they can handle HD and higher resolutions streaming, but I went safe with the earlier one which I knew would work when I got it, it may be different now,
