Dvd To Gp32 Guide

for the main steps:
1: Rip your DVD with a good quality (like 700Mo for 2h) to your HDD
2: Use virtualDub to crop black lines if needed and to put it with a 320*xxx
2b: If you want good quality DivX you can extract the audio part with avi2wav (freeware) then with dbpoweramp (freeware) you can normalize it so you will hear "everything"
3: Encode the Divx (maybe with the new sound file) to DivX4.12

Remember to decrease FPS (The descimate by 2 option is correct enough for GPcinema
By 3 for MoviePark)
Sound : 11KHz, Mono, 16Kbits is enough (and very small)
Video : DivX 4.12, Max intervall between 2 ket frames : 64, bitrate : 64kbts

This is the setting I always use
Try that and I you dont think its good enough then increase the bitrate setting

For more info you can PM me :)

see you

I ripped the DVD with "smart ripper" but vdub wont open the file that it creates
If I remember correctly Smartripper just rips the vob-files to your harddrive, those files you need to convert to (divx) avi's with something like dvd2avi or whatever software you prefer.

Edit: looked at the guide you linked to, you don't have to do it that way, you can create very good divx movies just using Smartripper and DVD2AVI, after that you use Virtualdub to convert the sound to mp3 and resize for GP32.

washo: i just used the default settings for "smart ripper"

but i think i see what to do now (thanks to raven) just create the divx using dvd2avi and then fiddle with the [edit: size and ]sound afterwards
I'll give it a go but as my computer is in desperate need of an upgrade it'll probably take me all day

cheers....

Man I spoke too soon, that guide is missing a couple of things because some of the programs the refer to are in later revisions and dont exactly have the same option sets. after about 10 hours of google searching I finally a decent combination of freeware to let me get some DVD animation on a SMC.

The programs I used were:
-DVD decrypter to rip the .vob file
-AutoGK (AutoGordianKnot 0.8) to convert it to .avi
and of course
-Virtualdub to convert it to the size of someting I can fit on a SMC.

A 436,756kb .vob (single episode) from a fansub dvd of Witch Hunter Robin to a 30.982kb .avi.

(according toGPcinema)

169kbit/sec

320x214 15 frame
137kbit/sec

11025 hz stereo
32 kbit/sec
