One of the Ubuntu developers did a 'user test' of Unity (here's the test results, I read about it here first). Reading it, that kind of test seems like it's a good way to gauge whether an interface is working, or to identify where it has issues.
I guess Pandora is shipping with XFCE, which might not need this testing. I had the interfaces like Pmenu & Pangea in mind when I thought of this but that Pandora Press article two years ago was the last I heard about them, are menus like that still being developed?
