I've gone and done it, my GP2X is well and truely bricked. Even the boot loader is gone if I'm reading the situation correctly (it just goes white then black, no gp2x logo in the middle of the screen). I've checked all the stupid things like the batterys and theres enough power.

Any suggestions what to do with it (not involving hammers preferably :( ). Any advice would be much appreiciated.

If the bootloader is dead, your only two options are to flash it again with JTAG, or get a replacement. However, this is very rare anymore... have you tried flashing a new kernel? I don't remember which screen signals the end of the bootloader...

I've tried flashing a new kernel to no avail. How do I go about this JTAG business (is it advisable for me to attempt). If not should I send it back to the supplier.

If you've never used JTAG for anything before, I think you will probably find it easier and quicker to just return it. Otherwise, dig deaper into the forums, and you will probably have to ask some questions in the IRC dev channel to actually get a JTAG to work. Oh, you also need to make, at the very least, your own JTAG cable.

Made the fatal error of turning it on with a card still in the slot.

Go and check to see if there is someone in the dev channel that could fix it for you, and ask them to put art103's new uboot on as it cannot brick in this way, as well as many other things being fixed.

cozmic: This problem has been fixed in #gp2xdev the fix has just not been officially released yet.
