getting tempted to get a portable music device, are there any that play other file formats such as sid or mod tunes?

You could encode them as mp3, ogg, wma or what ever you like, And use any mp3 player you choose that supports thoughs formats, Obviously.

Else, It`s the usual pocketpc, Zodiac, GP32, Palm, Laptop, Smartphone etc.
