Any Good Rpg Playable On The Gp2x

I'd advise Dragon Warrior monsters for GBC on whatever gameboy emu there is.

You sir have good taste in RPG's. Definitely recommend Dragon Warrior 1-3 for the GBC and Dragon Warrior 4 for SNES to get your tradtional RPG fix.

Though I still have to spend more time with the series, the Ultima games look interesting. Also to the person who said you should sell your GP2x and get an XBox 360 and Oblivion, there's no need to so, despite having no experience in making games, whatsoever, I can port the game to the GP2x if you send me lots and lots of money.

SNES RPGs to me seem fast enough, as long as you're willing to forego the sound. I played Chrono Trigger over a week like that, and, whilst it misses out, the feel of the game is as near to full speed as I've yet come across.

You may want to try something like Live-A-Live too - I haven't tested it on SquidgeSnes, yet, so the speed may vary a LOT from emulators more closely linked to SNES9x, but on OS9x for GP32, that was near as not full speed with sound.

Landstalker on DrMDx.. Its been on my 2x for the last couple of months. B)
Actually decided to give this one a try. Pretty good. I think I'll be keeping it on my GP2X for a while.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Final Fantasy VI (or: III) runs fullspeed & sound at frameskip 3, its perfectly playable. I already played through it on my Gp2x. Also, ive played thorugh Chrono Trigger back n the days on my gp32, its even more playable on the gp2x, now. What you waiting for?

I have to second ultima7 via exult. That game was amazing for it's time and still holds its own today. Runs phenominally well on the gp2x. In addition to Ultima7 you can also play serpent Isle and forge of virtue which results in a monster RPG tour-de-force.

I just wish there was a good way of playing the ultima6 era games (u6, savage empire and martian dreams).

There's an Ultima 6 interpreter in progress, but it's not complete yet. You can find a pretty good list of Ultima related OSS projects here.

Secret of Mana as soon as the SNES emulators run at full speed :)

secret of mana runs very well...i'm playing through it right now. the only thing that i'm noticing is the water transparency - not a big deal if you already know where everything is :). chronotrigger is a little jumpy in the battles but still very playable. also, lufia II runs great.

Cool, I also remember someone saying they were looking at pentagon, the Ultima 8 interpreter. ^___^

If you want full speed rpg's for snes I'd try Actraiser and Dragon Quest 1&2 remix. Dragon Quest 1&2 also has an english translation. They run most of the time 60fps with 0 frameskip. Those play the best for me. Some snes rpg's that are quite playable to me are Chrono Trigger, FF4-6, Illusion of Gaia, Dragon Quest 3, 5, 6, and Soul Blazer.

For Genesis/MD emulation try the Shining Force series and Shining in the Darknes that other people mentioned as well as Landstalker. Soliel is great and the Phantasy Star series 2-4 are really good as well. Beyond Oasis is another rpg I like but is more action/rpg. Sword of Vermillion is also amazing and is overlooked quite often.

If you can I would try to track down a copy of Ys Book 1&2, Ys 3, and Ys 4 Dawn of Ys for the Pc-Engine/Turbo Duo. There's a lovely translation by nightwolf for Ys 4. All of these will keep you busy for quite a while.

I'm playing (and discovering too) phantasy star 4 at the moment, it is just a great game!

another thing fabulous with emulation on GP2x: you can easily find translations for MD ans snes games in your own language (f.e. I found final fantasy 6 in french, but it still too slow with sound) ;)

When squidgesnes will be full speed, try this fabulous games:
bahamut lagoon
breath of fire2
ogre batlle (fftactics like)

on DRmdx, have a serious look at phantasy star 4...it still a great game with very modern features (combos, etc...) and a original medieval-SF story!

you can try Langrisser hikari2 (in a translated version) if you like tactical RPG (for me it's better than shining force2), and on action rpg (zelda like) try Story of Thor

GP2X is THE RPG machine!
