Because people like them? Why should they not like them? Are you saying that people should only like what you like?

A great many of these are from independent developers, so it's not "the industry" that's to blame here, unless these games are a natural and healthy reaction to the endless stream of first person cover-shooting drivel we're subjected to in which case I see them as a sign that gamers aren't being led by the nose by the big publishers, and the industry really is to blame for that...

And besides, this is not a new trend. Back in the 80s, we had big names such as Probe putting out almost endless streams of "thing" simulator - such as Ninja Scooter Simulator and of course Advanced Lawnmower Simulator.

Really, your post comes across as "I don't like something therefore everyone who likes it is wrong, and I need to go on the internet, into an obscure forum and STOP THEM".

I'm not saying that I like or dislike it, as I haven't tried the game for myself, I just think all of these attempts by "indie" devs to be facetious at best. Games of this grandeur are but peculiar peanut gallery attention-grabbing works from an art perspective. But it is art, so who can argue what is and isn't art?

I do understand your point of view.
Some people do overhype anything only because it's an Indie title.

I like to support the small studios but only if something I really like to play.

Because people like them? Why should they not like them?D.

Variety is the spice of life, I remember the 1st time I saw Katamari Damacy I immediately ordered it on import as it looked so original.

If a game is entertaining and a bit outside the box I have no issues with it, I got quite a few days entertainment out of Cookie Clicker a few years back.

I like stupid games. I don't enjoy them any less because they are stupid. Often I like them more because the people that made them injected more humor that even your typical game with characters making jokes can't come close to. although they seem simple, some are pretty challenging (the Adult Swim games for Android come to mind, like Jerry's Game, in which you pop balloons). Shower With Your Dad Simulator seems to fall into that category of silly but challenging. I am not too interested in it since I don't want another matching game right now (plus Windows only).

I have been considering Universe Sandbox, Goat Simulator, and I am Bread, amongst other games that may not live up to the standards of others. I think I would enjoy them, so what is wrong with that?

Now I am off to play Surgeon Simulator.

Seeing this weird trend for "x-simulator this" or "x-simulator that". Why do people buy into this apparent garbage?
I think that "Shower Simulator" takes the cake. What's wrong with people? The industry's really grasping at straws.
Yes, you might get 10 seconds on YouTube to ADD-idiocy laden "let's play" spotlight, but a bad game is a bad game. Why?

Long ago, after a discussion with set of friends on apps..one taught me about the "Fart App Golden Age"...which we all had experienced.
After such, I´m not impressed.

I'm not a fan of developers creating "wacky" games with "Simulator" slapped on the end of the title, either. Mainly because it does detract from a genuine simulation games and that's not fair to those developers who are targeting a niche market as it is. The Train Simulator and Microsoft Flight Simulator series of games are great examples of the simulator genre with the "Simulator" suffix. Of course, I'm not intimating that developers cannot have fun with the moniker, but I hope that at least some level of restraint is applied, otherwise it may be more difficult for upstart developers to make a name for themselves if they decide to specialise in realistic simulation games amidst the sea of "hilarious" simulator games.

LOL yeah I really did.

I have no idea other than a race what the above video is about, I had something similar to this on the original Playstation but have never seen the quirky mods here.

Wow, a well-reasoned answer - not something I expect on this board. And you're totally right,it is art indeed.

If you (again) go back to the 80s, you'll notice that the music back then was much better than it is now. Bear with me, this is relevant. As society improves, the overall level of wealth (in relative terms compared to previous generations) improves and musical originality suffers. As society starts to degrade again, as it is doing now, we can expect that overall levels of counter-culture will increase in response - it's how protests are made by people that have no means to do otherwise. That is the main function of culture (to teach lessons, to make one's voice heard), and it applies to all art forms.

Indie games are no different, and the rise of, as you so eloquently put it, "shite" games from small non-corporate developers is an indication that the level of "wealth" in gaming has actually dropped - and indeed, we are in a time of very little innovation and almost constant shoveling out of AAA rubbish. Of course, it all runs in waves and these new indie devs will make it big (as happened to the original underground music artists) and we will run a glut of boring crap for a few years before the next wave of incomprehensible indie stuff starts to appear again.

It's totally natural and should be embraced, imo :)

I've actually pretty much lost interest in any type of game for a long time now.

I have a few personal ones I play with myself, but I don't even have time for that...

I have absolutely no interest in any multiplayer game, or any game you play with another person... cooperatively or competitively, I'm simply not interested.
