In my experience with a mac, winos, and linux box the steam client will install an OS native version if it exists or will install proton on linux. I've never had to repurchase a game to play it on a different OS.
So Nintendo is right that proton won't run all games, but it will run many. Gothic 1+2 run at silver(playable but with bugs) Gothic 3+4 run at gold(perfect with tweaks). You can check which other games proton supports at [protondb].

yes and no. depends on where you get your energy. if it is primarily from coal then the math is bad. i think this focus may be off though. the cars are good if the utilize clean energy. we need to produce the clean energy any way since coal is bad.
