A GameBoy Color version is actually in the plans! I've ordered the first batch of 50 for the gameboy pocket, so while I wait for those to arrive, I'll probably start development of the Pocket Power Color. Originally, I was considering not bothering with replacing the power circuit, since the...

I designed a mod for the gameboy pocket! I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out honestly. It's a USB C and replacement regulator for the pocket. The thing I think is the neatest part of it is that it just solders in place using the existing solder pads on the gameboy. I've got a more...

Pyra news partially stale from the dragon's mouth

We're paying that for about 3-7Mb down (it's supposed to be 15Mb) and about 1Mb up

So, what's the current status of everything?

If the DAC has a DC blocking cap placed on its output, then that could certainly be a problem. But given that apparently the DAC drivers specify a DC offset, then blocking caps are probably not present (or not recommended by the datasheet). Although, I think the sound card in my desktop is AC...

Latest update: Keymats are here, how strong will the logo plate be - and pretty cases.

Initially, I was against the plastic, printed logo plates, but even after seeing the hand cut one that ED stuck in there, with the wrong logo no less, I think those are going to look really good. Granted, I'm probably still going to make my own, maybe out of copper to get a nifty fire look.

I have finally "finished" my first tesla coil! The discharges are a bit undersized for the coil size. I'll probably make a new capacitor at some point to increase the discharge length. But, for a first coil, this is fantastic! I guesstimate the output voltage at about 220000V

We need more drama. So here's another video.

From a personal standpoint, I would prefer a metal logo plate (I just like the look of it). That being said, I'm not too picky on that matter, as I plan on making a custom plate from stainless steel or brass.

A video. Again. Mostly about cases.

I'll pitch in my 2 cents. I think we should coat the cases. I'm in the same boat as many of you, where I've had cheap painted cases and the paint wears off. I've also had plenty of devices where the coating hasn't worn off yet. Someone (don't remember who) meantioned that thinkpads have a...

    AMD B450 Motherboard for Linux

Didn't AMD decouple the infinity fabric from the ram speed with Ryzen 3000?

Even more to see here (now)

I don't know about the Pyra's charge IC, but most modern charge controllers meant for embedded devices do what's called Coulomb counting. Basically, instead of relying on the battery voltage as a measure of its charge percantage, it counts the current flowing to and from the battery. This gives...

Even more to see here (now)

2A charging current won't be a problem. The Pyra's battery is 6000mAh (6Ah). Most lithium batteries have what's called a C rating, there will be one for charging current, and one for discharge current. To convert a C rating to an actual current, you simply take the capacity of the battery. In...

Are you a Linux user or Windows user? Or maybe a macOS user?

So, these instructions assume that your system was installed as UEFI rather than MBR. It should work with an MBR system though. On my system, I make sure that windows has it's own drive for ease of use. Not sure if this will work if linux and windows share. When I setup up a vm using a real...

Are you a Linux user or Windows user? Or maybe a macOS user?

I haven't logged in for a while, so hopefully this reply isn't too out of context. It's certainly doable on Virtualbox, it's just an absolute pain. Right now I'm just using KVM with virt-manager as a convenient way to manage KVM. I wrote myself some basic instructions if you want them

Are you a Linux user or Windows user? Or maybe a macOS user?

Currently I've got Manjaro on one drive, and Windows on another. Inside Linux, I've got a VM with access to the windows drive so I don't have to reset each time I want to do something that isn't a game. If I want to play a game, then I reboot. As a side note, if you try and boot Windows in a VM...

    What have you bought recently?

I finally got around to buying myself a Model M keyboard. So far initial impressions are nice. Not sure the others in the house will enjoy the noise though....

Not much text here. Just a video.

the market is actually decently big, they're typically used on devices that are meant to be serviced and/or opened up on a regular basis. Which, would fit the pyra perfectly, but it would probably be too much work to add them in now

Not much text here. Just a video.

If you want the proper name, they're called heat set inserts. And Trashy is right, it's mainly due to cost of putting them in. The inserts themselves are dirt cheap, and the process can be fully automated. But, getting the tooling done is something like $10000 per part that needs it, or you can...

This is a programmable sound generator implemented using TTL chips, and using an arduino for sending commands The goal is to have 3 pulse channels, 2 triangle channels, and 2 noise channels. This is a single pulse channel. It can do MIDI notes 57-127, has 16 volume levels, and 12.5% 25% and 50%...
